Actually, a 10 am showing in Sedona (as shown at your link) might work for me, if I'm all packed and ready to check out of my hotel by 9. I'd have plenty of time after the movie to drive down to Phoenix for the baseball game I plan to attend that night. Thanks!
I've been watching that same page at Fandango. I also look at IMDb's Showtimes page -- it's been empty up until recently, but is now beginning to list actual dates and times. Still sketchy at the moment, but I'd expect that to fill in pretty rapidly over the next few days.
There's a 7:00pm May 7th showing at one of my local theaters, but it isn't the brand new state of the art theater that opened earlier this year, so I'm thinking of waiting for the midnight showing there. It should be a much more lively crowd, and I'll be able to bring people with me.

Jim Carrey's latest Yes Man made more overseas than here, which put it ahead of some of his other films that did better in the U.S. than YM.

Why not release the movie everywhere at the same time, though? I don't understand how that'd have an effect on how much money it makes.
They didn't.
Those showings were one-shot events -- part of a world premier tour which is still underway. You might as well complain that Texas got to see it before the rest of the US because two hundred people saw an unexpected showing in Austin, a few hours before the Sydney event (1600 people, mostly celebrities) began.
The movie opens for general public viewing elsewhere at most a day or two before it does in the United States, (Belgium on May 6 and Australia on May 7, to name two) and in some places considerably afterward. See the list of worldwide release dates here.
Woot! The Harkins Sedona 6 added a 7:00 pm show on May 7, and I just bought my ticket!
Just got my ticket(s) for Brooklyn IMAX showing at 7pm on May 7th. Wooh hooo!

I won't be seeing it on release day. Dad just called me and made me PROMISE I wouldn't go see it then, since I'll still be at school. I told him there's no way I would, since I want to see it with him. For YEARS he's been a Trekkie and I haven't, and now that I finally like Star Trek we finally get an opportunity to watch a newly-released Star Trek movie together. Oh, and I'm gonna make him read my TPB copy of Countdown before we go see it, because that comic kicks ass and I don't want him to miss out!

I know its been several days but I wanted to address this.
A huge amount of todays box office is driven by its first two weeks of release. And if you have been following the press in the US, there is a big stigma that Viacom needs to overcome in the US to get the general movie audience (and old trek fans) to get their buts in the movie theatre.
As bad as that is, the perception of Trek overseas is much, much worse. By giving the early press screenings (and a handful of early openings) it gives time for the local medias to try and generate some positive word of mouth.
And as overseas is often 50% (or greater) of a films receipts Viacom truly needs to push the hell out of it, to try and even hope for a decent overseas performance.
ANd I just checked my area and so far, its only showing a Thursday showing in the absolute worse theatre in town. Its awful. Bad seats, bad sound, and is often the sight of local violence. So wont be going to that one (I hope, but if thats it I probably will go).
