Love the character, hate the scene

As anyone who has been around this forum for at least 5 minutes knows, I adore Trip. Just love him to death in just about everything he says or does.

But there is this one scene with Trip that makes me cringe every time I see it. It's when Trip visits T'Pol's quarters and wangles an invite to Vulcan in "Home."

Horribly juvenile. Not to mention, he still hadn't gone to see his parents since the death of his sister!

So what scene involving your favorite character makes you want to close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and start singing la la la la...?

I love Will Riker. I'm not proud of that scene in Generations when he has to ask Worf what tri-lithium is. He's the first officer of the Enterprise of course he'd know what it is; added to which, there was the episode Starship Mine in which the topic was discussed endlessly.

Archer in ENT:TATV, as T'Pol is grieving for Trip. He busts out these two cliches (Time heals all wounds was one, and I forget the other one) instead of showing his own grief. Hate it - and I get the impression the actors did, too.

"Absence makes the heart grow fonder" was the other one, and I nearly threw something at the TV because of how bad that scene was. :grr:

I don't remember Garak having a bad scene, but I'm sure that somebody can come up with something.

Ditto. Riker is pure awesome, and knows the ship just as well as Picard. There was no excuse for this cringe worthy line.

In The Child, when Picard is telling the staff that Deanna is pregnant, it isn't until he adds, "She's going to have a baby," that everyone reacts. Now, I've never gone to med school or anything, but even I know what "pregnant" means!

:guffaw: I know what you mean. I've always rationalised that "pregnant" could, at a stretch, mean that she'd been impregnated with some parasitic space alien thingy. He needed to say "baby" to indicate that it was human/betazoid child. That's how I rationalise it, anyhow.... You didn't want it rationalised, did you?

Along the same vein, Trip, T'Pol, and Reed throughout the entire episode of Harbinger.

Jadzia Dax in Meridian.

With this I have to agree.

LOL. Never thought anyone could see that particular scene in that way. Tee hee.

I love Data, but I don't particularly like his behavior when visiting Jenna in "In Theory." Also, HATE "Schizoid Man," but then again that wasn't REALLY Data.

Basically, anytime Data's not completely himself... I don't like it. (Except in "Thine Own Self," because while he may not remember a damn thing, he maintains his personality.)

Jadzia Dax in Meridian.

Of course, but that's more like "love the character, hate the scenes...as in every damn scene of the episode that the character is in! I'll add Benjamin Sisko in "Far Beyond the Stars", although maybe the actor is more to blame than the character. His nervous breakdown as Benny Hill is some of the worst over-the-top corny acting I've ever seen in any Star Trek series and the scene at the end on DS9 where he tries to do a dramatic monologue to end the episode on a poignant note is so strained with overwrought dramatic pauses that he actually manages to 'Out-Shatner' William Shatner in it!

Observer Effect - Delirious with infection and barely conscious Hoshi manages to break security encryption within a few seconds of punching keys on a pad. How? Mathematics is just another language. I'm sorry but mathematics and spoken language are totally different. Spoken language is about variances, exceptions to the rule, words that sound the same but have different meanings, and what is fashionable this year. Math is constant and logical. There is nothing similar about diagramming a sentence and solving differential equations. One is left side and one is right side. I'm great at math and horrible at language. I have friends who are great with language and horrible at math. It bothers me that they even tried to justify making the linguist an expert in encryption.

Knowing that you love the character of Riker the way I love the character of Picard, I feel your pain with that scene because it is the same pain I feel whenever I even think of the scene in "Nemesis" where Picard orders Data to reassemble B-4. :brickwall: :scream: The crew reassembled a Soong android once before way back in season one and it went quite badly causing all kinds of problems for many seasons! I sooooo wanted Riker to say, "Countermand that order," then give Picard an NCIS Gibb's style smack upside the back of the head finishing with, "Have you forgotten about LORE, Captain."

Add to this a following scene where Geordi makes the comment that he can't believe the captain went along with Data downloading his memory into B-4. All that is needed to complete the scene is in the corner of the screen the shadows of the Bots from MST3K shouting in unison "Neither can we." Data's third in command of the Enterprise one could only assume his positronic brain contains information that is sensitive, even classified. But, they're just going to go ahead and down load all that information into some strange android that they just happened to find laying around on a planet. :scream: :brickwall:

Okay, I feel better now.

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

For some reason, I always cringe whenever Garak gets his technobabble on about the orbital platforms in Tears Of The Prophets.

Actually, ANYTIME a character who isn't known for technobabble starts spouting the stuff. Scotty in Generations, f'instance.

I was going to mention this anyway: Just about any scene with poor, POOR (mirror) Garak in "The Emperor's New Cloak". I have no clue what the hell the writers were thinking.
