LOTR/Star Wars TV agony tonight

I'm in agony

Tonight, SpikeTV is airing Star Wars A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back....

...while at the same time, TNT is airing LOTR: The Two Towers and Return of the King.

The best two movies of each series.

I mean as I type, literally right now...Hoth is under siege by Imperial AT-AT Walkers.....just as Minas Tirith is under siege by Oliphaunt-riding Haradrim and Orcs.

HOW IS A MORTAL MAN TO CHOOSE?!

Buy a DVD player.... or a TiVo.

Or just flip over to BBCAmerica, they're playing Doctor Who.

I don't know about Spike but TNT chops their movies, speed them up, and overlay promos on top of the movie so that would make my decision.

What's TV? :)

Aside from news or weather network it's been 3 months since the last time I watched something 'live' for more than 5 minutes. It's all electronically stored (PVR/DVD/etc) stuff.

They have these things called DVDs now. Before that, for thirty years they had these things called video recorders.

For the life of me, I will NEVER understand people who agaonize to me(not including the OP, I know you are kinda joking)about not being able to see a show because they are going out/have something to watch on another channel and they have some kind of recording device next to their fucking tv.

guys....I own both of these films on DVD. It's the principle of the thing; there's just something fun about watching them live, in the background while I'm working on stuff.

Well considering that the entire LOTR trilogy movie versions can be had for next to nothing nowadays - heck, I even saw the extended versions of FOTR/TT/ROTK for like $5 at a TJ Maxx not too long ago. And as for Star Wars... anyone born in the 80s or earlier should have it at the very least on taped off of hbo vhs! Wasn't it like given in the mail with boxes of cereal and little samples of Tide?

You could go the DVD route to any series. But there is always something to watching it on TV. I was in a hotel, and a couple of buddies of mine was drinking at the bar and I flip on TNT with ROTJ on. I couldn't resist even though I've seen it a million times when I was younger.

The entire Extended editions for 5 bucks?!! Where?

Btw, I ended up going with LOTR (actually they showed the entire trilogy starting with Fellowship of the Ring) on TNT. I ended up watching Two Towers (which I have only watched 3-4 times in it's entirety) and the RotK one (which I had watched only that 1 time in the theater!). Those Legolas action sequences were fun!! (Including the one where he flips onto the horse instead of being stampeded down!). Man - those things go on forever!!

However FOTR is my fav of the three - it's the sheer majesty of seeing the Shire! The shrieks of "Shire! Baggins!" from a tortured but invisible Gollum! The Nazgul riding out. And most of all the beginning with Galadriel speaking elvish! "I amar prestar aen!"

^ The funny thing is, like most tv and movie stuff, the Shire is really quite small when you are there. Doesn't mean it's less pretty, though. Also, remember the scene where Sam says, "If I take one more step..."? They filmed that less than a hundred metres from Bilbo's front door - actually just to the right and a bit behind the Party Tree in my sig there. I guess Sam REALLY never got too far from home before THAT epic journey!

They've all been out on DVD for several years - widescreen, uncut, without DOGs or ad breaks... So who gives a fuck what station's showing which?
