Toys out early!

If the initial waves are successful enough and the movie is a big enough hit I'd love to see a Robau figure as part of a future wave and shipment.

I went to my local Toys R Us in Northampton (UK) and they told me the merchandise is on sale a day early, Saturday morning, i am looking forward to getting down there tomorrow.

I shall be returning to TRU tomorrow...even though ive already ordered the Ent, seeing as theyre selling like hotcakes I may *gasp* KEEP ONE IN ITS ORIGINAL PACKAGING! *faints*.

Yeah, I never really did that save for the Micro Machines Collectors Set 2 (Which i accidentally got twice) :P

I just got mine and it's very nice but I just read this ILM Scifiwire
the ships deflector dish comes out, grows and moves around. The fins on the warp nacelles split apart... wish that kinda stuff was added into this model. As I read said article I come accross this part...

Roger Guyett, visual effects supervisor: When I was a kid—when I bought toys or when I built things—I always wanted stuff to move. And one thing that frustrated me about the original Enterprise was that nothing moves on it. It was just a very static thing. ...

Well guess what? Nothing moves on this model.
So... they went out of their way to make the Big-E different for the new movie but put out a standard (albeit light[with bleed thru] and sound) modle that is a very static thing... Trying not to feel frustrated. :shifty: ;)

OK!

It's still nice. I like having it in my hands to examine. It will take some getting used to. Maybe after I see her in action I'll see her differently. :p

I'm gonna be taking mine apart as much as I can, to paint the inside black to try to eliminate as much of the light bleed-through that I can.

There really is a lot of it.

Well I bought the Enterprise tonight and I enjoy it (though I haven't gotten any batteries for it as of yet). I'm not a fan of the visible screws on the bottom and the blatant "this device should not interfere under FCC..." text but stationed next to my other Art Asylum/DST ships it looks great, if not a little small. I've warmed up to the design quite a bit, especially after being able to handle it up close and look it over. I have no doubt it's going to look kick-ass on the big screen.

Has anyone thought about if it's possible to replace the LED"s in the nacelles with red ones, or the paint the caps red? I personally don't mind the blue, I'm just curious.

Just got me the ship and Phaser from Toys R Us in Lakeside, The Toys are literally the very first thing you encounter when you walk in the store :D

I hit my local Toys R Us today and they had everything. I picked up the Enterprise, which isn't too bad. I have a lot of the other ST playmates ships, so I figured why not. The figures look like crap. The only ones that seems to look anything close to the actors are Sulu and Spock. The phaser looks horrible, a bad design and the silver plastic are just awful. The communicator looks ok, but I hate when they put voice chips in them, I'd just prefer sound effects. The tricorder is pretty boring.

They're out in force at my local TRU in force as of this weekend's trailers and restocks! TONS of stuff of all stripes. The ship. The phaser. The figures. Seems like a lot of the Older Spocks are gone, though. Classic fans must be hitting them hard.

Gotta agree with you there, which is why after looking at it long enough and finding a pic of the movie prop, I sanded down all the shitty warning signs and copyrights, masked the red barrel and started to spray paint it with Metallic Silver.

Unfortunately most of the paint didnt settle well thanks to the shiny surface, but it has got a first coat over most of the body, so a second coat should hopefully look better. Until then, here's a pic of how it looks at the moment...

Sorry for the fuzzyness, I quickly snapped it on my iPhone :P

BTW The Electronics all work fine, the Blue light does bleed through as does the small patch of the red barrel I covered, but multiple coats should help with that...

EDIT: Whoops, Size....let me shrink it...

Sort of reminds me of a mishmash of the TSFS and TFF phasers with a hint of the classic one tossed in for good measure.

Nice job! I can understand the criticism of the toy for being all shiny, but the movie verion isn't really shiny at all. Are you going to add any weathered effects to it?

Well, You cant really tell in that photo but as it stands it does look rather weathered - a little too tatty for my liking - so i'll probably give it a few more coats of silver so its all really shiny and maybe an inkwash and finally a little bit of a rinse so it looks like its been serviced with future oil or something. Also the silver im using is actually darker than it appears in the photo, I must have caught the light at that angle.

I'd really like to take it apart and see if theres anywhere I can add some extra weight, but thanks to the swivelling barrell im terrorfied of taking it apart for fear of screwing up the assembly for it.

Well, I have given the interior a couple coats of flat black paint and it's perfect, no bleed thru at all. Exellent! :bolian:

I have to ask - How did you open up the nacelles? And if you did, where there "fans" on the interior of the bussard collectors? I ask because whenever the lights are on it looks like there's something fan shaped (like we saw in the teaser trailer) being hidden by the opaque plastic.

I did not open the nacelles, the bleed thru was not as bad. I did notice the fan shaped thing, it is nice.

I remember a while back WE were having this Really Big Discussion around here, about just where the trigger was on a somewhat fuzzy pic of one of the props of this thing....

It would appear that I was correct in my assertion that it is on the front of the handle, just below the main body. (".... that's just a shadow..." My Ass... :rommie:)

It's nice to be right occasionally.

The trigger is in an annoying location though. If you grip it like its designed you HAVE to pull it with your middle Finger as your index sits very nicely above the trigger and if you hold the handle further down the main body of the phaser sits an inch above your hand, so it just doesnt feel right.

God, why am I analyzing this toy so much? :P

I'll allow it just this once, but don't let it happen again!:guffaw:

Umm... because you're a Trekkie? :techman:
