I'm in the Army Reserve, and have thanked others in a serious tone on occassion.

I've been thanked numerous times, sometimes in awkward ways. I've taken pictures with random kids in my lap at a local buffet, and whille working a recruiting event, I signed baseballs for children. a good feeling considering how terrible I am at baseball.
those kids were great, although they went berzerk climbing around our vehicles we had on display.

Yes. I'm not forward or outgoing, but I've felt the need to on a couple of different occasions. Whether you agree with the various wars these people have served in or not, you have to really put yourself in their shoes to appreciate the danger they've put themselves in time and time again.

No. While soldiering is a difficult, admirable, and honorable profession I question whether any soldier in my lifetime or my country's(USA) lifetime has ever done anything that would have caused major consequences if it hadn't been done.

I haven't said so in so many words. However, I work with homeless veterans and I have helped many of them find homes, and helped them settle into them. I also work for the Royal British Legion as a specialist caseworker. So, in a way, I like to think that I am doing my bit.

Thinking of it, probably not, since I don't know any military or ex-military.

The only army guy I properly met was the father of an high school friend, and I don't don't think I ever uttered the phase: "I'm here to bring your daughter to a night of drinking binges, and thank you for serving in the military".
Most people my age did the obligatory military training (one year), but I never felt like thanking them (and they were not really happy about doing that, too).

However, one of my mate at the gum is a police officer, and I often thanked him for his work.

No, but I also don't really hang out with too many Army folk.

this.

all though i remember the people who died to defend my nation from the jack boot of Nazi oppression and to free those nations suffering from Nazi occupation each year.

and i lament those souls lost, those who've fallen in the name of the nation in our modern wars.

Yeppers.

But I've also run up on a few that got insulted by it. Basically got told, loudly in public once, that he didn't do it for me or the country, he did it cause it was the only job he could get and he was sick of being treated like he had.

No, but then again the only veterans Sweden have is the super secret elite guys we seem to send everywhere, so you don't really spot them that easily.

Yes I used to quite often, but I don't actually think military service is actually a good thing anymore. I respect that they want to help defend their country, I just don't think it should necessarily be done.
