Simple "Countdown" (comic) question

I know the answer is probably burried deep in the bowls of the forum somewhere, but it's easier to ask:

Is the "Countdown" comic series considered a canon prequel to the new film?

If it is, it would mark a shift in the canon policy (at least for the Adamsverse).

I sure as hell hope not. That would mean we have to accept the fact that Narada is infused with Borg technology.

Possibly...

Will depend on whether or not any of it is actually mentioned in the movie.

But as usual (thank you wormy ;))... it'll also depend heavily on your own personal viewpoint, toward matters of this nature.

:rommie:

Well, I got hold of a copy of the TPB of "Countdown", and from what I can see it's canon. It's labeled "Official Movie Prequel". The story credit is to the screenwriters, and the backblurb cites it as being presented by JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman.

^Which represents a fundamental shift in canon policy from Paramount, if it holds up. I expect a LOT of resistence to this over at Memory Alpha, who are still following the old "filmed only" policy.

Of course, Memory Alpha doesn't have much by way of ownership rights, so it will matter little, in the end.

Being "Official" and being "canonical" are two different things.

I still dont know how i feel about Countdown. It was interesting, but I found the Captain Data stuff to be kinda hamfisted into the story.

This.

I'd say they made every effort possible to stay true to prior canon while making their own contributions to it in the hopes it would be accepted, but I seriously doubt this is technically canon.

From what I heard some of it is referenced in the movie, mainly Spock and Nero's bit.

I just hope they don't mention the Borg-tech-infusion into the Narada...

Oh, and it's nice to have the ridge-less Romulans back.

I have no problem if they mention the Borg nature of the Narada. None at all.
As long as the Borg themselves do not appear...

As for Countdown, it may have not been declared canon by TPTB (yet?), but lets face it.
These comic books are as canon as you can get, for something not seen onscreen.

I'm pretty sure I remember an interview with Bob Orci (probably on TrekMovie.com) where he stated that he and the other producers didn't consider it an official part of canon.

Here WE go again...

TPTB making sure WE can have OUR cake and eat it too !!!

I still dont know how i feel about Countdown. It was interesting, but I found the Captain Data stuff to be kinda hamfisted into the story.

I looked through a copy when I was at the book store the other day. How the hell can there be a Captain Data? Data is dead. And Worf a General in the Klingon empire. When does this take place?

Data downloaded his 'essence' into B-4 in 'Nemesis' which eventually asserted itself over the primitive B-4 personality and was deemed fit to basically resume Data's life. Worf apparently went back to serve in the Empire after becoming dissatisfied with the way things were going, and married Grilka. I think this is all 20+ years after 'Nemesis.'

So Worf went back to the Klingon empire again. And B-4 is now Data? IS any of this explianed in any way or what?
