Possible covers and info for upcoming books (spoilers obviously)

The blurb for Synthesis contains also some nice infos about the upcoming Typhon-Pact-Crossover:

The sixth astonishing novel in the
bestselling Star Trek: Titan series delivers
another mind-bending adventure as the
anticipation builds toward 2010’s six-part
Star Trek novel event, The Typhon Pact.
Now a new father, Captain Riker leads the
starship Titan toward contact with a civilization
made up of artificial intelligences—sentient
computers who have surrounded a vast gasgiant
planet, serving as the first line of defense
against an ominous threat that the crew
can scarcely comprehend. The AIs’ long and
turbulent history has given them deeply routed
distrust of organics...leading to an unexpected
act that radically transforms the dynamic
between the ship and its crew.

Six books, sounds like the first half of the year is primarily devoted to TOS, the second half more or less completely to Post Destiny. If this turns out to be true, 2010 could become one hell of a year, maybe not as balanced between the series as for example this year, ut i' sure, the vast of majority of the readers is most interested in the Post-Destiny-arc anyway. But thats a lot of speculation at this point, let's wait what Shore leave is going to reveal...
Yeah, but you have to remember that the authors are always telling us that that stuff isn't really trustworthy. That's why I didn't post the full descriptions.

As for the RW cover, TBH I liked it to, but I didn't want post stuff that I knew wasn't accurate.

As JD said, don't assume the information in the catalogue is accurate. Remember how A Time To... was initially reported as being 12 books? But there never actually were going to be 12 books; that was just a first-guess tentative figure before they decided how many books they actually did want to do and then began to develop them.

That'd be Marlena Moreau
-------------------------
She sounds familiar... She appeared in an episode did she not? I'm thinking either Mirror Mirror, City on Edge of Forever or Yesterdays' Child..

Do authors generally get to see the cover before they are made public? (Just curious...)

As a rule, yes. But again, the covers shown in the catalog are usually early, preliminary covers. Sometimes the schedule for putting out the catalog may require using the rough version of a cover in progress that hasn't yet reached the stage where the editor is ready to share it with the author.

Marlena was the Captain's Woman on the mirror Enterprise in Mirror, Mirror.

FWIW, this is the first I've seen of the cover for Unworthy and I don't believe it's final.

I'm wondering why they chose to put Chakotay's head on the body of Don Johnson, circa 1987...

So was I.

Actually I'm pretty sure that's a photo from "Future's End" or whatever that 2-part episode with Ed Begley Jr. and Sara Silverman was called. Why, why, why are such things burned on my brain?

I have an odd question, but why would SF be investigating the Caeliar's disappearance? It seems a bit far, sending a bunch of ships to the DQ... I thought what they did, the help they were providing, kinda made sense, so they could use some space...

No, it really was supposed to be 12 books, with Daffyd ab Hugh writing the missing duology. (My understanding is that it was supposed to be something Lovecraftian; that would have been cool, actually, with Picard battling the Elder Gods.) And Keith's duology compressed down to a single book -- and then spawned articles. Twelve books. Sorry, Christopher, but you are the Weakest Link. ;)

:) I'm glad to see there's finally a synopsis for The Romulan war and a temporary cover. I'm reallly looking forward to getting this and the new Titan novel.

Those covers are pretty rough. That cover for Unworthy better change; Chakotay in a leisure suit on the cover of a Voyager novel looks ridiculous. And isn't that pic of Seven the same as the one from Before Dishonor?

Oh, that's why Seven's pose looked familiar!

I'm wondering if maybe she is just who they happened to pick to represent someone from this AI planet. Although if they were going that route I would think that they have picked someone less recognizable.

Maybe it's who the AI planet chooses to represent it/them; if they manage to scan Riker's brain, this will stand out as an example of an artificial being Riker once had feelings for (which persisted at least a few years, for 'Jean-Luc' to insert her as Riker's wife in his artificial reality) and thus a good form for interactions to take place through.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

That would certainly work. It actually would make more sense than the artist just happening to pick Minuet as a model for a new character. After all they did get a bunch of new models for the Mission Gamma books.

I was hoping that was Vale, but clearly it's Minuet. I agree that this AI planet, if that's what the story is really about, probably searched Riker's mind to get her image. It's the most plausible way she could suddenly reappear.

All good stuff. I'm especially for the new Titan book. It is easily my favorite of the post-Nem books.
