Abram's Enterprise, Version 4

Just a small update...

I fixed the size of the sensor deck. I don't know what I was thinking, when I built it, but it was only half as big as it should have been. I just blew away alot of time thinking my PC was screwed up, but it ended up being that I had the "Re-Topology" tool on.

:)

Looks nice, but your fantail is too defined. The new E gentle curves into a fantail shape, but really don't have a defined area.

Yeah, I noticed that. I'm trying to figure out how to blend that in better. I think I softened it up, some, by the time I took some of these new WIPs.

Underneath...

Side view... I now have windows! Next stop is that area behind the dish.

And finally, the back of the saucer. I fixed the radial lines, so they now angle inward at a sharper angle. They were too straight before.

Yeah, you've got the right idea there, but there shouldn't be a U-shaped cut out shape under there. Well, there is one, but not two of them, if that makes any since.

This is an illustration I used to show Tobias the same thing a while back.

Oh, I see what you mean. I thought you were talking about the back side of the neck! I'll have to see if I can soften that edge up... I see what you mean. It's going to be tough to fix that. :)

OK...I think I have a decision to make. :) I've been trying to fix this edge, and I am having no luck. I think I am going to go ahead and detail it out, and see how it looks afterwards. I know it's not screen accurate, but I can't get that shape without rebuilding the entire secondary hull...and the neck. I'm not sure I want to do that, since I finally got the neck shaped right, and it's all one piece.

What do you guys think? I think my time would be better served to finish detailing it out, and have this one major flaw, but then again, maybe not. :)

... I know it's not screen accurate, but I can't get that shape without rebuilding the entire secondary hull ...

With those words, our industrious MadMan1701A unwittingly committed himself to one day building Version 5.

:)

Maybe not for a long time... The thing is, I bet they change the ship for the sequel, and it'll start all over again...

Look out for a thread titled "STXII Enterprise, Version 1" in the next 8-12 months. :)

You know, Psion is probably right. If you don't fix it now, you'll probably make yourself make another one after this is done.

I made some progress...

I think I am going to continue on from here. If I go nuts about the secondary hull again, I may revisit it. :)

I like the progress, her secondary hull looks much better.

I say, save a duplicate of where it is right now, so that down the line, you can do a refit-styled nacelles and pylons.

Well, I thought I would pop in here and prove that I hadn't dropped off the face of the Earth. :)

I have made a very little progress here... I started building some details on the bottom side of the secondary hull (that defined line is not bothering me so much, now. :) ) and I tweaked the inner neck so that it sticks out farther, as it should.

Hopefully I will have some time this weekend to get more done; it's going to be a busy couple of weeks around here.

Wait.

What is that detail under the fantail where the shuttle bay is located? It looks like an elevator assembly. Is the ship unfinished in the movie? (DON'T ANSWER THAT!) How accurate are those details, MadMan1701A?

I'd say about 75% accurate. :)

That big square part you thoguhtmight be an elevator assembly was simply meant to be some kind of a panel to break up the space, but I think I might Break it up. It does look like it leads to the inside of the shuttle bay. :)

Nice job, MadMan. Your modeling skills and definitely improving. Great job.
Thanks. :) That's what this is all about, anyway... practice. :)

I thought I would add that I don't intend for those detail areas to stay dark like that... It's just so that I can see them, and make sure there isn't any overlap between objects.

:)

One thing I noticed is that on the front of your secondary hull by the deflector dish, where there are three cut out pieces, yours are perfectly right angles, where as on the ILM version, there is a bit of founding and not perfect 90 degree angles going on there.

Just a little thing, but thought you might like to know.

Do you mean the big cut outs, where the parts with the lights on them stick out? I can probably soften those up some. :)

Yes, that is indeed what I was referring too.
