Gay Trek Fans, at what age did you know?

An 11 year old near me might have committed suicide because he was "gay".

First off I hate sexual orientation, it's really lame. 99.9% of everyone, if they admit it or not, will have a same sex experience in their life time.

Second, and more importantly, if this becomes some kind of gay, bi, trans feeding ground of hate I will be the first to ask for this to be closed, and will be the first reporting such people.

So I was wondering when everyone here realized it's fine to like everyone? :)
I had a friend who knew since at least 11-12, and I was 13-14, however old I was in 8th grade.

In retrospect, I should have figured it out when I was 11 and had a crush on another boy in my class, but I remained in denial until I was 19.

Oh, and I told him a few years ago at a high school reunion that I'd had a crush on him back then. His response was, "That's cool." He wasn't interested, being straight, but he had no problem with it. And he didn't append, "but I'm straight, you know that?" to it like so many people did when I was coming out (that irritated me no end - I wasn't telling them because I wanted into their pants).

Arthur C Clarke once said something in an interview about everybody having a bisexual or homosexual experience. Ever since then I've felt like I missed out on something. :(

It's not surprising that that poor kid knew his sexual orientation at age eleven. I certainly felt the magic power of women at a younger age than that. I was buying Supergirl comics for the miniskirt and crushing on Uhura when I was in grade school; and the earliest intense sexual feeling I had was in Third Grade (when a girl named Lori smiled at me and thanked me for the Valentine-- so I would have been nine).

^ Exactly 11 is 6th grade and depending on the person they might realize it by then. I don't think it's uncommon at all. I also think the health general (I can't remember the real title) under Bill Clinton came out and said that in a survey 70% of males and 85% of females said they had sexual experience with the same sex.

If you get the chance you should try it, try everything in life at least once. :)

I'm not gay, but I certainly remember wondering what kind of girl I would end up marrying when I was 6 or 7 years old. So I think it's safe to say I knew I was straight at that point.

I'd imagine gay folks start knowing around that point, but it's likely that they'll take a few extra years to be certain, depending on their environment and what they've been taught.

I hate that. In this very thread, and in the thread where people are asked what they think about two dudes kissing, it seems any guy who says he doesn't have a problem always has to add. "but I'm not gay." The very need to express that in any situation discussing homosexuality is indicative of something.

I'm not gay, by the way. Just saying.

Love the ending.

Have you read the American Idol top "I'm not gay, but Adam is awesome" BS? Every time a guy tells be that I just think of how much they really want another guy.

I'd love to see the source for this little assertion.

I'd say he's probably right, if "same sex experience" encompasses everything from just being checked out/asked out by a gay person, all the way up to actually engaging in sex. I've had a few gay guys try and buy me a drink when I've been out in Manchester on a Saturday night, it's flattering, and stuff like that doesn't make me uncomfortable. Hell, I even kissed a gay guy once at a party, just for the hell of it. Didn't really do anything for me, so I haven't done it since, but hey, it was an experience.

But... were you thinking of preferring particular girls or types of girls, or just about the fairy-tale homemaking aspect? At 6, I was not old enough to really understand what getting married meant...

I remember analyzing individual girls, as in 'I could imagine marrying her, but not her, yes for her, no for her.' That kind of thing. So yes, I think it was definitely a heterosexual thought process and not a mindless fairy tail daydream.

I remember this clearly since the one I decided was the most 'most-likely' is someone I still somewhat know. (Like, see once a year in the neighborhood kind of thing.)

Does having to physically push a guy off of you that is grinding his erection on your leg while you try to sleep on a friend's couch count as an encounter?

I think your percentage is a little off.
