There you have the actual problem with the dialogue - the word that's wanted, conversationally, is indeed "fuck," but that's a bit too much even for this Trek movie.

It's the "had sex with" that sticks out, so to speak.

Well, Uhura just met this guy -- and she's definitely intrigued by him (even though she playfully puts him in his place). She does not want to come across as having a "truck-driver's mouth", so I can understand her not using "fuck".

If she was truly annoyed by Kirk and wanted him to stop bothering her, she perhaps may have said "fuck" or "get away from me, asshole". However, she was engaged in some backhanded flirtation, hence the reason for the more playful/lady-like wording.

I just keep watching the Pine/Urban clip over and over. It feels like I'm watching a lost scene from 1966. You can plainly tell Urban is having the time of his life - not only is he in one of his childhood fantasies, he's an integral part of it, front and center!

And, yes, Pine has mastered the Kirk "Christ, not this again" look when McCoy gets wound up.

I love the first line from McCoy in this: "I don't need a doctor, I AM a doctor."

And that whole rant about the dangerous things that could happen, like a hull breach and being fried in their chairs, and the way he was told to sit down several times.

A brilliant introduction to McCoy !!!!

It has that whole "I suppose they changed the whole Sickbay too !!! I know engineers, they _love_ to change things ..." vibe to it.

yeah it really works. It's a great clip to release. It really dissuades the fears that fans might have but it is still funny enough for non-fans

Really? I just about never meet anyone under the age of thirty who doesn't seem to think that "fuck" is a basic building-block of the English language.

Granted, I don't live in Kansas...or Iowa...

What I find interesting here is the subtext of what's going on with Kirk. He's drunk and seems to be looking for a confrontation of one kind or another - specifically with Starfleet. He's clearly not so drunk that he can't recognize that Uhura is brushing her buddies back, and if what he really wants is to score with her he could say about a thousand things other than what he does say to her would-be protector - or nothing at all.

He wants to kick some Starfleet ass tonight.

Y'know, Kirk seems determined to stay as far away from Starfleet as possible - if what we've heard is true - and here the frelling fleet has basically descended on Iowa and turned it into the San Francisco Yards East.

The McCoy clip was pretty cool - it didn't appear to be an exact impersonation of DeForest Kelley, but that definitely was Bones.

As for the Uhura clip... ah, digital rights management, how I love thee. I'm in the UK, and apparently can't see it for copyright reasons. Wonderful.

You know, the glimpse we get of guy sitting next to Uhura at the bar reminds me a bit of Morn. Not exact, but close. Kinda wish they'd have gone all the way and made him look like Morn.

I wonder if that lens flare in the middle was to cover up an edit, as if there was more dialog between Kirk and Uhura that was cut out to make the clip shorter.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. I think it was done on purpose. I guess I won't have much of a problem with the use of lense flares in this movie, but I must say, when I first saw the scene, I thought it was pretty distracting.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. I think it was done on purpose. I guess I won't have much of a problem with the use of lense flares in this movie, but I must say, when I first saw the scene, I thought it was pretty distracting.

It really looks like something was cut to me; Uhura's laugh is very abrupt.

But I'm more interested in what happens after that scene. I can't wait to see Kirk kick some ass.
