JJ Abrams on a new series possibility: "Of course it could"

J.J.'s main bread and butter comes from TV. So why not? He'd be familiar with the new Trek lore and timeline set up in this film and a new series down the road could only expand on the things he and his team have set up and helped develop. Better J.J. than finding other television producers who have little or no experience with either Trek or sci-fi/fantasy of any kind. That's how some spinoffs and movie sequels tank.

I'd guess that if CBS thought they could get J.J. Abrams to actively produce a Trek series they would probably be interested in one - and that may be the only reason they'd be interested.

J.J. Abrams replied; "Yes... but, ... ".

He also said that the challenge was NOT to do the same thing. What made Voyager and Enterprise so mind numbingly dull? They were just doing TNG over and over again. Whatever the details of each of those shows, that's what made them failures.

If Trek should return to TV I suspect it will be 5 to 10 years before someone takes a serious stab at a version of Trek that just isn't more of the same old. Unless a miracle happens and they let JJ exec produce and he gets to create some crazy talented production team with a hands off policy from the studio.

Who knows. Like the man said, yes... but,...

It sounds like if JJ Abrams did it, he would do it right.

I think Abrams has a stalker. Did anyone also watch the 'No tribbles were harmed..." video? He also said, "But there is one in the movie." I thought that was interesting.

THANK YOU!!! :bolian:

Been saying it for years and people look at me like I have two heads.

ya know, Quinto definitely strikes me as gay-ish.

not that there's anything wrong with that!

I still think it is too early, it would fail
Party Pooper!:p

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a new series succeed. I just think that we need to get well past this movie first, it needs to be successfull and spark new interest in Trek, and then maybe even wait until after the next movie, and then by that time, maybe the time will be right for a new series.

JJ: "Let's see, do we want to make mo money mo money mo money? I guess it depends. Are we monks who have taken vows of poverty or is this still Hollywood?" :rommie:

It kills me that people ever thought that there was any obstacle to a new TV series besides the bean counters' estimation of its commercial viability. You people need to have more faith in greed.

I have endless faith in greed; I've had considerably less so in Trek's commercial viability on TV. ;)

Greed is good.... 'Star Trek: Wall Street' where the Dow goes up and down at warp speed...

I think the time is coming where a new series could do well on television. The bread and butter of trek has been its T.V. series. We may never see the mid 90s interest for it again, but the idea that trek can't make a return to a weekly series is so limiting.

A well done show could hold its own. The market is there.

I agree. I think this issue has been discussed at length in Future of Trek forum, but this universe shouldn't just remain in the domain of film. There's so much to explore and the chance to do a new kind of show. It would be a shame if they didn't do a new series.

Unless this ''possible'' NU-series is set in the J.J.VERSE and has the same actors and ship (ENTERPRISE) I don't see much interest in a new series!(Sorry, but rehashed BERMAN era trek ain't gonna cut it!)
