Save Enterprise Request

Hi. I'm looking for anyone involved in the fan campaign back in 2004/05 (or before) to Save Enterprise or the other groups put together like The Enterprise Project. Many of these websites no longer exist online. I am currently interested in amassing an archive together, but not sure what form this will take. Possibly a DVD or DVD-Rom containing as much documentation as possible - postcards, flyers and letters written around this time. A far more ambitious idea is to use fan recollections for a documentary. But achieving that is probably a long way off for me at present.

Something I recall seeing was video footage of the rally outside Paramount Studios, news items, also the viewing party organised by Rod Roddenberry for the final episodes Terra Prime/TATV. If anyone saved that kind of thing for posterity and would be willing to share it, I'd be interested. One proviso is that you have no objection to your material continuing to inspire others to support the cause.

Yeah, cheers Jinx. A depressingly obvious answer (since we've both been around since those days). That was my first thought but I was hoping all roads didn't lead in one direction. Seems many involved are almost ashamed these days to admit involvement and that's sad. I guess I didn't expect an open forum discussion on the matter, hence the request for PM.

I only donated some money to Trek United's campaign to finance further ENT episodes. In retrospect, that was probably foolish but at the time it seemed like a crazy idea I had to be a part of. At least I got my money back.
That's really all I can say about this matter. Oh, and wasn't there also a "Save Enterprise" rally in Tel Aviv? I remember thinking, "Shouldn't they protest more important things like their country's policy regarding Palestinians?".

As someone who didn't watch his first episode of Enterprise until October 2007, I have gone back and read the stories of the "Save Enterprise" activities and how far the movement got. While the results were less than stellar, I don't think anyone should be ashamed of their involvement to try to save a show like Enterprise.

Ahhh...Those were the days I almost got involved in the whole ''save enterprise'' campaing, THEN! I rememberd the whole save ''CRUSADE'' campaing I ''was'' in! and I realized that there was no chance of it getting picked up by a differant network so I just sat back and just watched how things went. If it got picked up, GREAT! if it didn't I wasn't going to cry about it.

Lately, I have been a bit nostalgic about those times. All the crazyness, the insider infos, the outrage, the endless ENT vs. BSG threads, the ratings anxiety, ah well, good times. Sort of. If you're into this kind of thing.

If nothing else, it was a good exercise in character building and a lesson not to take the internet so damn seriously.

I heard all about the TU leadership and their "issues" recently. Good leadership in an organizing effort like this is key! It requires good dedicated people who have the ability to "organize" and get other people to follow a well defined path. That's especial important when dealing with Star Trek fans. Getting Star Trek fans to follow the same path is like trying to herd cats!

I've posted at TU for a short while and even helped them with their last petition drive about a year ago. There are some nice people there.

I was pround to be part of the Save Enterprise campaign over at TU. I think we got closer than a lot of people thought we would. There were times I thought it was actually going to happen. That was very thrilling and exciting and I wouldn't change it all for anything.

I wasn't part of the movement but I don't think those who were should be ashamed. I was impressed by the passion of those who got involved with Trek United. Just think about where we were 4 years ago and where we are now. At least they helped drive home the point that Trek is still viable entertainment.

If nothing else, the 3-5 million bucks raised and the mass protests out in L.A. helped drive home that ENT and the TREK franchise as a whole still has a devoted audience willing to pull out all the stops to keep their babies alive in one form or another.

Maybe just a few higher-placed celebs raised most of that total, but the semi-official total thrown around since 2005 has been in the 3-5 million range. From what I understood at the time, Seth McFarlane and Wayne Brady donated a significant chunk of that total between them but that could be wrong.

Actually I'd heard it was somebody connected to Virgin Galactic and their proposed space tourism industry. The $3 million total donation was anonymous, with somewhere in the region of half a million from ordinary fans. Pretty much a show of determination, rather than any realistically achievable goal, considering how much even a slashed budget S4 Enterprise cost. But it could've been worse, JJ Abrams went on to be handed 5 times a season's budget for just 2 hours.

The three millions were just a pledge, though, by someone anonymous, weren't they? At least that was my impression at the time. After all the stuff that's come out about some of the people involved I'm rather skeptical about it.
I also seem to remember that the amount of money actually donated was well below 500.000 $, but I could be wrong.

You know, with the addition of popular webisodes on the Internets, I wish someone would consider filming Enterprise on the cheap and then posting them to the web. Seems like some pretty popular shows are starting to do this. And heck, it would be a new media for Paramount that could follow on the success of the upcoming ST movie.
