So I just found out that Im spending the next month in Maine, primarily along the cost but going so far north as Houlton . Never been there before. I'm going to be busy as hell during the week, but will have my weekends free. What can you all tell me about Maine. Anything to do other than look at quint fishing villiages and eat lobster?

Some facts about Maine:

  • It is the only State with one syllable
  • It is the only State to share its border with only one other State
  • It is the only State to have declared war on another country
  • More facts can be found here

Maine is a beautiful state. Even if you never get away from the coast you'll still be impressed.

If you've ever read a Stephen King novel, you know that Maine is the single most haunted, possessed, demon and alien-infested place in the world. Stay away at all costs if you value your life and your soul.

where along the coast? I was born and raised in the mid-coast maine region...
Bascially along the I-95 corridor. I start in Yor, move up the coast to Portland, through Fairfield, and end in Houlton with detours to Thomaston, Rockland, and Oxford with a whole bunch of cities in between.

You're driving up the coast of Maine? You don't need to know anything more than you're in for more beauty than you can absorb.

I LOVE Maine. There are a lot worse things to do than look at beautiful scenary and eat lobster. :)

Wow... you are in the middle of nowhere Maine. I think you should be asking where to go in Canada.

I have never been that far up, but the southern coast is awesome, I love Kittery Maine and PortsMOUTH NH (It's not Portsmith people!). However it's cold, and will most likely still be cold there next month.

Stay along the coast and you will be fine. I traveled up and down the coast from NH to Portsmouth Maine and it's really nice. They also have some nice lighthouses and great seafood. The last time I spent a lot of time in Maine it was the hottest day ever at 104 right on the beaches.

Don't. Those Canadians will attack you and eat you. They have long, pointed teeth.

(and on that note, if you see Eric Lindros, CALL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Pick up a Stephen King book. Handy guide to Maine. ;)

Indeed, although it was Great Britain at the time. It was a border dispute. There was no fighting.

Good advice. Will do :techman:

Maine has the highest rate of alien abductions in North America, I believe.

If you like backpacking hit up Baxter state park, just don't get abducted!
