The Doctor never heard of the Dominion?

Caretaker was Stardate 48315.6 and the Jem'hadar was broached in 47987.5-way before Voyager's launch.

Yeah, I sweated through Message in a Bottle and founded stupid the Dr never heard of the Dominion when he queried about a SF war w/the Romulans.

Could be a few explanations but its just a plot hole a mile wide in Voyager.
I would have like to seen the Prometheus parked at DS9 for a few episodes

There are a lot of flaws like the one you mentioned. I too wish the Prometheus could have been incorporated into DS9 in some way; that would have been a subtle and classy sort of crossover.

The doctor went through some sort of memory degradation in one of the previous seasons, so the reason he has no idea about the Dominion is that he "lost" those memories. Alternatively that given he was a doctor on a ship stuck in the Delta Quadrant he ignored any information about the Dominion to conserve his memory space for important medical information.

Starfleet knew of the Dominion when the ship was launched in "Caretaker". The Maquis did not (as indicated in "Exterme Risk"), as it wasn't common knowledge yet.

I see no reason why Starfleet should have told the EMH. It was just a tool; it didn't need to know this, or anything, for that matter.

I don't see any reason Janeway should have told the Doctor, either, even after he became a regular part of her crew. What would be the point? We know she didn't tell the Maquis, either. Better that everybody think that everything is fine back home, and that home is worth returning to. Some if not most in the Starfleet crew might have known; Tom Paris once practiced combat piloting with Kes on a simulation that involved the Jem'Hadar. But apparently, they didn't see a point in telling, either.

I agree, I think that the doctor was probably not told because they probably thought that he didnt need to know. Also I think at that time not much about the Dominion was known on a wide scale, starfleet knew of them but didnt know a lot and I doubt it was common knowledge among everyone in the Alpha and Beta quadrants.

Wouldn't it be better to say that it's not a case of anyone telling the Doctor anything about the Dominion but whatever is in the ships database that the Doctor, as a medical program, would have access to. As has been said not much info was available on the Dominion at the time Voyager was launched so it would be stand to reason that Voyager database would only have a small reference to the Jem Hadar and so small it might not be included in the medical database.

Also shouldn't this be in the Voyager forum or at least the General forum?
