Paramount Requests Abrams Consult Shatner for Star Trek Sequel

Remember all the hoopla surrounding the Shatner/Abrams fiasco leading up to this summer's highly anticipated Star Trek film? It may have all finally paid off for William Shatner, as unconfirmed sources told Us Weekly on Wednesday that the original Captain Kirk may have a role behind the scenes of the recently announced sequel. Sources very close to top Paramount executives indicated that Leonard Nimoy, who revived his role as Mr. Spock for Star Trek, had several lengthy discussions with Paramount about including Shatner in the Star Trek revival. On one such visit, Nimoy was seen carrying "two worn, tattered books, one of which was definitely The Return." Speculation as to Shatner's role in the next film has ranged from character development to key plot elements, but "it's still anyone's guess." Sources were able to confirm that both Abrams and Shatner have been contacted by Paramount, and that Abrams has been "strongly encouraged" to enlist the help of Trek vet William Shatner.

When Us Weekly attempted to contact producer/director J.J. Abrams regarding the news, his office declined to comment, merely stating that "there are several options on the table, and it is really too early to begin eliminating anything at this point." However, old Captain Kirk himself was available for comment, and seemed quite enthused at the prospect of once again being officially involved in the franchise to which he has devoted so much of his professional career. "I knew Leonard would come through for me, I just knew it," proclaimed Shatner, elated. "I don't know what Paramount or J.J. has in store for me, but regardless, I'm just excited to be part of the team again." When asked if there was any bad blood left over from the first controversy a few years ago, Shatner only acknowledged, "It's always been about the fans."

So, it's still April 1 in your time zone?

I almost wish they never make a sequel so we won't have to go through two more years of fucking Shatner angst...
Almost :klingon:

It's a FAAAAAAAAKE!
The Shat back in 2011?

This latest rumor comes courtesy of the UK’s Daily Express, who are ‘reporting’ that "industry insiders say moves are afoot" to get Shatner into a sequel, and they quote one saying "there are hopes he’ll make an appearance:" Not exactly saying much, but this this subsequently got picked up by the notoriously unreliable entertainment news service WENN, which got it picked up by mainstream news outlets and other genre press, including another Star Trek site.

So TrekMovie checked with our always reliable sources, (who have helped us debunk many rumors in the past), and this one is just another to add to the mix. There are currently no ‘moves afoot’ related to the sequel and Shatner. In fact work really won’t really begin on the script for the sequel until after the first movie comes out. Of course it is theoretically possible that Shatner (or just about anyone) could end up being considered down the road, but there is nothing going on now on that front.
Balance of article here.

Whoo, that's a relief. My April 1 has been so uneventful that I completely forgot that today was April Fools, and i bought that hook, line and sinker. I should have known better as soon as it mentioned someone wanted Shatner working behind the scenes on another movie!

Good one. :techman:

I thought it was an April Fool's joke, but as soon as they mentioned The Return, I knew it.

Although this is an obvious April fools "joke," I would hope Shatner is never in another Trek vehicle.

You need to have some respect son. So you could say...I appreciate the contributions that willy shatner has made to the st franchise but i would hope shatner is never in another trek vehicle.

there...that sounds better even though I DON'T AGREE WITH YOU.

To shat or not to shat, that is the question;
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of obsessed fanboys,
Or take klingons against a sea of tribbles,
And with triticale, feed them.

 Nice!

And, with that, I think we're done here.
