Some info and a couple of screenshots from the movie related game.

The game is an arcade-style space shooter that, according to Hoyt, is "fast-paced" and "designed to be very accessible and ‘pick up and play.’" Players will be able to extend their Star Trek movie experience by engaging in Federation v. Romulan ship-to-ship combat in a multiplayer environment.
"Star Trek D.A.C." will also be a download game on the X-Box Arcade, as well as the Playstation Network. Expect the game to be available around the release of the Star Trek film (May 8th), but Paramount is not confirming a specific date yet.
Unlike traditional movie games, this one does not try to recreate the film but is designed to be "a fun way to extend the movie experience."
To enhance the Star Trek movie experience, the game includes the new USS Enterprise from the film, and other ships ‘inspired’ by film designs. Star Trek D.A.C. also features actual sounds (designed by Oscar-winner Ben Burtt) and music from the Star Trek movie. Composer Michael Giacchino (a veteran of game music) and his team worked with developers to tailor the music to loop seamlessly in the game.

Ugh that looks like that dreadful combat seen in Tactical Assault and Conquest. Top-down view and all.

I'VE HAD IT WITH MOTHERF***ING SHIPS MOVING ON A MOTHER***ING 2D PLANE.

Actually I thought it looked pretty cool. IMO, this looks better than star trek online.

Well it may "look good", but it's still a simplistic 2D arcade shooter with pre-rendered backgrounds featuring Star Trek ships. Lame.

Perhaps that is lame??? I don't know, The most recent video game of any kind that I played was Goldeneye....

I haven't been keeping up with recent Star Trek game news.
If this is just some little game they're throwing out to the casuals while some bigger STXI game is on its way, hey why not.
But if this is the ST XI game, I'd say that's very sad. Star Trek games were seldom great, but what they have been relaesing in recent years was utter garbage.

I thought I heard something about a game where it was all about the player going through a career in Starfleet or something. Now that sounds great. DAC or whatever this crap is called sounds like a game I'd download as shareware for a 10 minute diversion maybe.
WHAT HAPPENED TO 3D SPACE SIMS?

Star Trek D.A.C. videogame (non-canon)

'Star Trek D.A.C.' has already been discussed in detail on its own thread here:
New Trek game on the way...

and the screenshots were posted 6 days ago on that thread.
In keeping with Trekbbs forum layout why can't this solely stay under the subforum of 'Trek Gaming' ?

It is generally assumed that none of the Star Trek-based computer and video games produced over the years are canonical,

Since the Star Trek videogames have never been official canon then they shouldn't be in the Main Bridge section of the forum but stay under the Engineering section.

Re: Star Trek D.A.C. videogame (non-canon)

Well, probably the reason for bringing this up here is that the game is moving to incorporate designs from the new version of Star Trek rather than sticking with oldTrek.

I happened to run across this yesterday:

It's interesting, in passing, because it's the first of these fan projects I've seen embrace the iconography and style of nuTrek.

Well I'm not denying it's dead lol.
I would have liked:
- an FPS for the Wii (with XI Phaser shell for the remote)
- a 3D space sim with easy controls like Rogue Squadron for 360/PS3/PC
- A bridge commander sequel with new designs and ships from XI for PC and DS
- DAC for the PSP, IPod and DS

Since there is no rule which states that discussion of a given topic cannot be carried out in more than one forum (some topics play both in Misc. and in the Science & Technology forum, for example) and since there seem to be certain areas where the movie, this game and StarTrekOnline overlap or inform each other, I don't see a problem with having a thread here. Linking to the thread in Trek Gaming (as you have done) is also a way of pointing out the other discussion in progress, so that those interested might participate over there, as well.

The decision to make such a restriction would fall outside my purview, but you're welcome to raise the question in the QS&F forum, should you so desire.
