An Alternative Main Title Theme for ENT?

They should have used Jerry Goldsmith's alternate theme for TMP (the first one that he did that GR rejected). It's got the same sense of sweeping epic that the final TMP music did and would have lent itself well to a show about exploration. Plus, it's distant similarity to the TMP/TNG theme would have informally 'linked' it to the later productions. Unfortunate missed opportunity. But I can understand why. We all knew that more males in the 18-25 demo will watch a show with a 'cool' rock theme song, right?

I seem to recall hearing the rejected one on YouTube before and liking it.

Do you have any links - or a precise title - for Jerry Goldsmith's rejected TMP theme? I would really like to hear it!

There's a piece of it at about 0:55 here but it's not the clip I was thinking of. Bob and Jerry's comments are also kind of interesting there. I'll look harder for the original one I saw.

A more thumping, orchestral version of "Archer's Theme" might have worked. OR rehashing the FIRST CONTACT theme from 1996 and changing little bits here and there to fit into a much shorter opening credits sequence.

Since FC seemed to be the plot jumpoff for 'Enterprise' overall, that makes a lot of sense.

It was one of the best TREK movie themes...hands down. If "FotH" were dumped I'd have much preferred a modified version of the FC music to have been put in its place. But I never disliked "FotH" so it was never a real issue to me. It would have been win-win for me no matter what got picked.

Agreed regarding the FC theme.

Slightly OT, I always thought a cropped version of Eidelmann's ST:6 overture would have been a good theme for a TOS-movie-era or post-TOS-movie-era series. ('Star Trek: Excelsior' perhaps ;))

Now THAT's a stroke of genius. Honestly, I never thought about that!

I agree whole heartedly! a ''shortend'' version of the FIRST CONTACT theme would have worked VERY well I think! Oh! and I did think about that before.

Oh, I thought that the other choice for the theme song was The Calling's "Where ever you will go"?

FIRST CONTACT's music fits perfectly with a 22nd century prequel show. Always has. It just never got used. And I was fine with "FotH" even if it wasn't the best idea they could have used.

I like the idea of Floyd, but I think there'd need to be a slight remix of Learning to Fly to make it feel right. A more orchestral version maybe.

Some songs I'd suggest purely for laughs:
"Space Oddity" by David Bowie
"Rocket Man" by Elton John (a nice throwback to Shatner)
"Heroes" by David Bowie (actually could work well)
"Only Time Will Tell" by Asia (gotta be ONE Asia fan in the house.)

I once turned down the volume when ENT was coming on and played the SANFORD & SON theme over top of it. Eerily enough, it not only lasted about the right amount of time...but somehow fit with the credits. Don't ask.

eddie, when you say 'don't ask' you know we then have to. :)

Were you under herbal influences?

Nope. Totally sober.

Just in a giddy, goofy mood. And it was worth it. Watching the opening historical montage to the S&S theme? Hi-larious.
