Friday Night Light renewed for two seasons!

Am happy for FNL fans but so many better shows deserve the luck FNL has had because it would struggle to survive on CW never mind NBC. NBC better be getting a really really sweet deal from this otherwise they are frkicking mad for brining it back.

So McCoy will get the crap kicked out of him by his dad for two more years? I wonder how they'll get Landry and Julie to come back for a fifth year without having them flunk a grade. :p

FNL IS one of the most deserving shows of an extended run. It's one of the few great shows on network television.

At the end of the day its all about the ratings so I don't know what NBC was given to strike this deal with Direct TV but it must be very very good, the show has a little if any of a worldwide audience to live off so ratings/DVD sales all come from North America but then again being only 13 episodes could be the blessiing and maybe more shows need to follow that model.

If I was NBC I would of of cancelled the show and even now I would only air it in the summer and use the free space to actually build a decent friday night.

Well, this was a case of quality winning in the end.

Economically, is it any different than Fox deciding to do a Firefly movie based on a show that aired only 14 episodes?

Greek had 1.5 seasons in the freshman year. Fall, Late January-mid March, and then the rest of the year. The new "season" started tonight was the 28th episode.

So 26 episodes could be a month.

From what I understand DirectTV pays for like 90% of the show, or some insanely high number.

That's a pretty good deal. Besides, considering the ratings for most everything on NBC are bad, why not keep FNL around?

As much as I like Landry, him being a junior this year is fucking ridiculous. That means he was driving Matt around when he was a freshman in Season 1. I assume most of the new players next season will be at least juniors.

Yea if DirectTV is paying for that much of the production costs then even if it definitely makes sense. This is why they're doing the whole Jay Leno 5 nights a week at 10PM thing. Extremely low production costs. I'm sure they don't think he'll get ratings as good as some original shows they've aired at 10PM, but the cost of how much it will be for that hour of programming vs how much they'll then make with the ratings is better then an original show.

Network TV is dying... DYING. The ratings just keep getting worse and worse. Hit shows today probably have less ratings then shows of 10 years ago that wouldn't have even cracked the top-20. Hell some of the ratings the networks are getting for shows look worse then what WB shows got 10 years ago.

Network TV is pretty much gone. DVR, online viewing, tons of cable channels, video games, computer games, etc... It's just going to continue getting worse and worse. NBC seems like they might be onto something though with the Leno decision and staying with this DirectTV deal for FNL.

Fantastic news! I love this show and I really want to see it continue.

I'm not sure how far the season is along on regular TV, so I don't want to spoiler anything, but the premise for the next season is excellent too. :)

'Underdogs' (the next to last episode of the season) airs Friday.

I'm glad to hear that FNL will be around for two more years, but it sucks that it'll be a year between seasons, since I don't have Direct TV.

Goin' to have to keep an eye out about bein' an extra again, too.

Wow, this is awesome news! i totally thought the show was finished. i'd say, "I can't wait" but this season is still going...

Very happy to hear this news. FNL is an amazing little show, and NBC is a creative and ratings failure right now. It needs to hold onto whatever it's got. Since they have an agreement with DirecTV that brings down the production costs, the show is very cheap for NBC. They are better off keeping a cheap show that has a small but loyal audience than taking a gamble with a new show (that has higher production costs and risks failure).

It's a money maker for them with the deal they have with DirecTV.
