Linda Hamilton as Kathryn Janeway

I would have rather seen Judi Dench as an Admiral though.
And that's the beauty of it - had she played Janeway, then ultimately, you would have seen her as an Admiral. :techman:

Actually, my concept for Dench or Bergen playing Janeway would have involved Janeway being a Rear Admiral from the start, who had been utilizing covert operatives to locate the Maquis so that she could go to speak with them regarding some matter of mutual interest between the Maquis and Starfleet. Chakotay would have been a full captain in Starfleet who had gone over to the Maquis (and played by someone non-Beltran-y). The rest of the crews would have been the same concepts as we saw, except Kim would have been gay, the Seska-like character would have been a Changeling infiltrator placed by the Dominion, and Torres would have been half-Cardassian instead of half-Klingon.

Yes, I'm an unapologetic original 'V' tv series fan. And boy, I'll tell you, this has been one loooooong hiatus between seasons. But one day, we'll get word that the new season is about to start. I have faith. :scream:

When I was a kid, other kids called me the 'V Freak'; seriously. I had a scrapbook of articles on the show that I pasted together. I had one of the toy rifles (that you could trim down to the hand held guns). I had all the novels and comics. I would record the episodes on a tape recorder and play them back. But revisiting the saga years later I found it rather interesting. The original miniseries is still AMAZING. 'The Finale Battle' is a fun follow-up, but it lost something in it's embracing of night-time soap opera - it was like Dynasty, while the original had higher goals in mind I think. The series...I find nearly unwatchable now. As a child I couldn't accept the cancellation, but as an adult I can't believe they didn't cancel it sooner. Ick.

I'm interested to see the new pilot though.

I'd follow Dana anywhere. But I think if she had been cast as Captain, the dynamic with the crew would have been thrown off it's hinges; they'd have had to recast all the other roles.

[Maybe not all, but some. For one thing, there'd have been no need for Seven to have been quite the ... erm ... shape that she was. Which could have led to a more interesting interaction with the Borg.

You hit a nerve here which I've never commented on before, so forgive me if I rant a bit...

While it seems obvious that Seven was introduced partly for her sex appeal (most of the cast were to some degree), I find it annoying when people can't see her as anything more than that. It stinks of sex discrimination. Yes she wore a catsuit, and heels but she was also smarter than many members of the crew, and earned her place as a top officer; and the actress that played her rose to the acting challenges again and again. Seven was brave. She brought a lot to the table; she wasn't just eye candy. And for all her sci-fi character baggage, she was dealt with more realistically and consistantly than any of the other characters, except maybe the Doctor. How cool does she have to be for you to overlook her body? Because there ARE women that are shaped that way, and there are women that dress in ways that accentuate their bodies. And those women can be just as smart and productive as anyone else - and are often moreso; how they're shaped or how they dress shouldn't factor into that. I understood the criticism of the character when all we saw were photos, but I saw her as far more after her very first appearance, and I don't know why others can't or don't.

I think Judi Dench would have made a formidable Admiral. 'M' in a Starfleet uniform. :)

And god help you if you are an ugly girl
Course too pretty is also your doom
Cause everyone harbors a secret hatred
For the prettiest girl in the room
And god help you if you are a phoenix
And you dare to rise up from the ash
A thousand eyes will smolder with jealousy
While you are just flying back

I saw the character of Seven as more than just a shape, too, and I've always been more than willing to give a very pretty person a fair shake. I know that sounds funny to say, but I agree that there really is a discrimination involved.

But what I was referring to is show balance. People like to see certain archetypes represented, and it was pretty obvious (to me, anyway - and I may have been mistaken, but I doubt it) that when they brought Seven on, it was to replace Kes, who had been the show's previous "hottie". TPTB felt the need to turn up the heat to try to compensate for how badly the show was sucking otherwise, and so we ended up with an ex-Borg with a perfect body, catsuit, and heels. It really has nothing to do with the character, or the actress. It has to do with the fact that, much like with T'Pol on Enterprise*, when TPTB sex a character up unnecessarily like that, you know exactly what they think of you and your level of maturity and intellect. "The show's bombing, so we'll give 'em some T&A. That always keeps the monkeys hitting the feeder button. :techman:"

The sad thing is, they're all too frequently right. But I think maybe less so for Trek, and they never grokked that.

If they wanted me to take Seven seriously and not jump to that conclusion, they should have left her bald to begin with and had her look more human much more gradually.

Delany being on the show would have avoided that, since I'm sure her ego and/or her agent, if they were doing their job right (the agent, not the ego ;)), would've insisted on her being the best looking regular on the show.

* What, exactly, would have been wrong with something more like what T'Pring was wearing in Amok Time? Or heck, just putting her in the same uniform as everyone else with a special patch or something. They learned nothing from Troi, who I think most would agree looked best in the uniform!

dench would have worked her succes as a believable M in the Bond series would have been well employed here. Her style of acting too...

Linda Hamilton is iffy at best. I didn't really like her in the second of the Terminator movies. It reminded me of Demi Moore in GI Jane... The part wouldn't be very good.

WEEEAK....

:wtf:

How do I put biggots on ignore?
You go into "user cp" at the top of the page, then into "Edit Ignore List" under "Settings and Options" over on the left. Pretty self-explanatory from there.

And "bigot" has one 'g'. :p

message was edited too...
Apparently i offended and it was not my intention. I just don't think Hamilton could have stood up to the part and made it believable. The casting of janeway was fairly well thought out for who they picked..

^ Neogothboy suggested Dench would make a great admiral, Destro. Admirals don't usually have to punch anybody out or anything.

Actually I was the one she suggested that she would make a good admiral. :)

I meant that she might not have been a good choice for a captian due to the physical demands most Trek captains have to face, with all of the fight scenes. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

As someone that was in the U.S. Army and got to deal with three female officers over me, I have to say that they all had their own very unique leadership style. I also got to interact with many other female officers that weren't over me but I got to see them in command. Only one of them was the woman with "presence" that many of you are imagining, and she wasn't the one that I respected or trusted the most not to get me killed. I'm glad that she wasn't over me.

I think that any female actor of sufficient ability could have played a ship's captain. Personally, I think that Mulgrew overacted as badly as Shatner and was way too excited about everything. I don't think that many could have done worse.

Linda Hamilton would have likely been fine. I personally like Stacy Haiduk.
