Vectoring Nacelles Make a Comeback!

I saw this:

nacellerotate.jpg

as part of the German movie poster, that was sent to me, in very high resolution.

It looks like the nacelles are rotated sideways! Does everyone remember about the vectoring nacelles from back before we even saw a picture of the new Enterprise?

It looks like there may have been some truth to those rumors. Unless it's just an error on the poster....

What do you guys think?
:)

Looks straight to me.

BTW, I still find the "Enterprise getting raped" poster pretty funny.

Those nacelles have appeared to me to be all over the place since day one.

I see why you think they are rotated, it is an optical illusion. That shot really shows off another illusion I've wrestled with in the past; how their back ends seem to droop downward.

Well, I remember the "vectoring nacelles" business, but looking at your detail above and at the poster from which it's taken, (this one, I presume?) I'd be more inclined to call it an error in perspective and proportion on the part of the artist. Things may not quite line up perfectly, but I'm not seeing vectoring nacelles.

I think what MadMan was referring to is how the nacelles appear twisted along their axies:

I don't think I was making myself very clear. :) I was in a hurry.

on this image...

The Red line shows where the vertical bar on the front of the Nacelle Dome is located, in the image. The Blue line shows where it would be, if it was vertical. It makes it look like the entire nacelle is twisted clockwise (the orange arrow).

I also think it's just an error, but I thought I would see what people thought. :)

^Though the way I've drawn it twisted is In the opposite direction from how you have. So I'm betting artist's error.

This pic shows that in the picture, at least the nacelle cap itself is rotated.
Could be a mistake, or maybe that one support on the outside we see in pics actually rotates when the warp engines are activated. Probably mistake, but hoping that its real.

As for the rumor from a long time ago that the entire nacelle itself can rotate, I dont think so.

Green shows the direction it should be and red shows the direction that it is in the picture.

EDIT: Woops. Beat me to it. We'll ill still leave my picture up to help anyone since mine is rotated to be a normal view. :)

Yeah, after zooming in on it, I think it looks like the domes are what is rotated weird.

I wonder how that happened, since I'm sure they used a 3d render to make the poster?

Yep. You beat me to it. :)
Okay, I see what you mean, but I'm not at all sure what the purpose of such a rotation would be. Actually, I was never clear on what function the vertical bar might have had in the first place.

I think the original argument was that the nacelles could turn, helping the ship turn faster. :) Like they were jet engines, or something.

I don't like that idea at all... I wonder if the finished poster will end up this way, or not.
