FALLOUT 3 - discussion thread

I'm enjoying it so far. The auto-axe is a lot of fun, and I'm not even using a melee build. Plus, the infiltrator is just sick. A silenced, scoped, assault rifle. That's just awesome.
Haven't downloaded 'The Pit' yet but I already have one of those by installing the 'weapons mods' mod. The game really should have come with something like that from the get-go! A scoped hunting rifle or a silenced .44 early in the game is a godsend!

I just love the fact that you can return to The Pitt even after you're done with the mission. The man opener is handy little weapon for tearing Raiders apart.

I haven't even bothered with either of the DLC packs, they seem like not enough content for a too much money (even though I have a ton of Microsoft space bucks from buying them on sale). I guess Valve has spoiled me with all the free content they give away, paying for stuff like this seems like a ripoff.
I might have to buy the next one to increase the level cap to 30, but they will almost certainly have to include it in any expansion pack they make, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Yeah, I suspect they'll eventually bundle all the DLC into an expansion pack so it'll probably be cheaper to just wait for that. The autoaxe looks like fun, but I've never gotten the hang of melee combat anyway, at least without depending on VATS. Besides, for close quarters combat, nothing beats the combat shotguns or the laser gatling.
Speaking of VATS melee, I wonder if there's a mod that allows you to target specific body parts. It'd make the kill animations so much more fun!

I'm totally dragging my feet on getting through the regular game, so this would be welcome and I think you're probably right about it coming along. I think I'll have to wait for this myself.

If they do it like they did with Oblivion (and I don't see why they wont) then, no, they won't bundle them up for online downloading. They will stay available as individual downloads. Rather, what they will do is release a "Game of the Year" Edition of the game which will include the original game, and all of the new content on one disk. This usually cost the same as the game originally cost when it first came out, just with all the new stuff already incorporated into it.

Well if they do an expansion pack that's an extension of the main game they'll have to include at least the content from levels 21-30 in the expansion pack, though they may not include the Brotherhood of Steel faction that you get in the DLC pack.

I'm going to wait until the next expansion pack comes out which raises the experience level, since right now I am at Level 20, and I've done almost all of the side quests.

My version died today, CTD right at loading. I have like 30 mods, but nothing new execpt a texture pack. Tried uninstalling the texture pack and it still didn't work.

Very odd.

Speaking of mods, has anyone got around to making a .223 pistol mod yet? That (aside from the bozar!) was my absolute favourite weapon in the original two games.

Oh and I'm still finding little undiscovered nooks in this game! Just took the underground route to Rivet City from the back of GNR and found that tunnel that some of the pre-release footage was based! The first time round I didn't fancy my chances getting through a ghoul and mutant infested city and instead skirted the edge of the river past the Jefferson Memorial.
Oh and thanks to the "Vault wiki" I now know why I was attacked by a seemingly random behemoth out in the wasteland. Gave me a hell of a fright as I don't generally carry heavy weapons in the wilderness, and the best I had was the Chinese assault rifle. Took ages to kill that bugger.

Yeah, I'm guessing I'm going to start running through levels and eventually I'll max out. If if' mistaken they ave already discussed making a patch that will raise the highest level.

You can do it from the console on the PC version though it does become obvious pretty quickly why the put the level cap so low; around level 30 you're god-like powerful. With some psycho and a fully functioning plasma rifle I was dropping Deathclaws with one shot.

I think sneaking up on people, pickpocketing them, and leaving a mine in their pants that causes said person to blow up is way better than groin shots.
