Hi Guys,

I work in radio here and this press release was sent to me this afternoon... thought I would share it here for fans to see. :)

AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC GIVEN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE WORLD PREMIERE OF J.J. ABRAMS’ “STAR TREK” AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
SYDNEY (27 March 2009) – Paramount Pictures Australia will release a strictly limited allocation of special tickets for sale for the World Premiere of J.J. Abrams’ (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: III, LOST, ALIAS) action adventure STAR TREK at Sydney Opera House on April 7.

Those who succeed in buying tickets will be the first members of the public in the world to see this hotly anticipated film.

They will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet that will also welcome director/producer J.J. Abrams and cast members Eric Bana, Chris Pine (SMOKIN’ ACES), Zachary Quinto (HEROES) and Karl Urban (THE BOURNE SUPREMACY) on their first stop of a world tour to promote the film.

Those who purchase tickets will then join invited guests in the Concert Hall of Sydney Opera House for the first film premiere to be held in this particular performance space of Australia’s most iconic building.

“Although we have a tremendous demand for tickets to this event, we are delighted to be able to make some tickets available to the general public so that they can share in the excitement of this unique World Premiere screening of STAR TREK here in Sydney,” said Mike Selwyn, Managing Director of Paramount Pictures Australia.

The limited allocation of tickets will go on sale from 9.00 a.m. Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) on Monday, March 30 and will only be available online via www.sydneyoperahouse.com or by phoning Sydney Opera House box office on +61 2 9250 7777.

Tickets will be $100 each plus booking fee and each ticket purchase will entitle the purchaser to a bonus souvenir STAR TREK theatrical poster.

ARGH! I don't finish work until 9 April. :scream:

Otherwise I'd be booking my flight and getting the tickets the second they go up.

Hopefully, none of those who buy a ticket will make an appearance with some badly made Trek costume or some horribly fake Vulcan ears and make up or something.

Oh come on, its BOUND to happen hahaa.

I'm in Melbourne, which is a bummer, as I could have gotten tix to the screening since I work in the media.... it would have been nice to see it in the Opera House...

I will laugh my BUTT off if anyone appears in costume at the premiere!!!!

A flight to Sydney from Melbourne is not that expensive. The only problem is time if you are working that or the next day.

At the Insurrection premiere, there were several Klingons, Ferengi, Starfleet officers and even a Q, but I don't remember seeing a Seven.

Tharrah with baby Andorian, and Ambassador Therin with pet thizzard, at the Sydney premiere of ST III. We wore the same outfits for the gala red carpet event we helped coordinate for ST IV, but the other 98 fans had to be in Starfleet uniform as the guard of honor for the celeb guests. The price of their ten minutes of fame.

I logged into the Sydney Opera House site at 8:55am. No problems but tickets not available until 9am. I tried to reload the site at 9am. The site would not load at all - despite numerous attempts at reloading over 10 mins. At the same time I was on the phone trying to get through to the Opera House box office. The website still wouldn't load. Finally I got through to "Joan" on the box office hotline at 9:10am.

All tickets sold out.

Bugger.

^ I think this film will do well. We should have counselors standing by to treat the haters. They may not survive it.

Well if this isn't a reason to pull the old TrekBBS account out then I don't know what will be. I got myself a ticket so I am completely stoked!

I tried phone at 9.01am - engaged.

Took a few minutes to log into website, all sold by 9.06am. No luck here.

No info on limits - who knows, people might have been buying in bulk to scalp on eBay.

I heard you could still get some an hour later. The seat next to me was still available then (a friend was checking it out).

Judging by the content of your post and the signature you currently have, you're in desperate need of attention. Perhaps you should have one of those counselors hang back to give you some special treatment.
