Chows -- now there's an unstable accident waiting to happen. I've read about more children being attacked by Chows than any other dog. Pit Bulls get a bad rap because *TADA* of the media exposure.
When I used to deliver home medical, I regularly stopped at a family who owned a very large Chow. It was vicious and once got through the door and bit me good - teeth breaking my skin. Being attacked by a dog is no fun - and these fucktards couldn't have cared less that I was bleeding :brickwall:  After that event, I always called the house ahead of time to have them meet me sans dog outside and needless to say they weren't happy. So if they didn't meet me out there, I just left the goddamn delivery in the middle of their driveway... dropped right out my car window. Screw you - your dog is never going to bite me again.

I blame the owners and not the dog. Chows, Pitbulls, and Dobes are beautiful animals. My ex-wife's family Doberman was the sweetest dog I've ever known.

It's never the dog's fault. Chows are supposed to bite intruders. It's they're #1 purpose in life to guard the house.
I'm really not opposed to dog licensing and required classes for certain breeds. While it's not right to label a breed "vicious", some are definetely higher energy than others, and in the case of Chows, obedience training is not optional.
But as it is, the law puts 100% responsibility on the owner, which is right. Those home medical people can make a choice: insulin, or Chow-chow. There's no way in hell a homebound patient can keep a dog like that.

Wow, your ex-wife's doberman accepted you? I always thought Dobermans were one person dogs. My Dad's old Doberman was given to our local police chief as a police dog because the dog used to growl at Mom all the time. The reason the dog resented Mom was because he used to sleep at the foot of the bed. Seeing Mom was allergic to dogs, Dad had to move him to the living room and he resented that.

Chows, Pitbulls, and Dobes are beautiful animals.

No arguement there. If I hadn't gotten the Belgian Malinois I presently own, I'd probably have gotten either an American Staffordshire Terrier or an APBT. I prefer the Staffies though, I like the look of them.

posting pitbull

Which means you have gameness which is an excellent trait for any working dog. Pitbulls are no exception, just channel that gameness into some sort of working or physically challenging exercise and that can mitigate a lot of the risks of owning one.

If I were homebound I would want a working breed dog for protection. That's the problem with people -- they don't understand how hard-headed the working class dogs are.

2. ban the breeding and force all pit bulls to be nurtured or spaded.

I'll take nurturing one over hitting it with a shovel. I gotta figure he'd be less likely to attack me that way.

Don't understand and thus unwilling to commit the time to work with and train a working dog. They have to have some sort of activity or exercise otherwise they go muy loco.
