Between that and a "future" Vor'Cha, it's my preference.
Nice to see this ship a bit more upclose.
I always get the impression that Klingon ships could be used as stabbing weapons, if, say, you were really really big and in a bit of a pinch...

The Negh'Var totally should have been the Klingon ship we got in GEN, instead of a crap-ass old BOP... oh, well. Nice to see the details of this beautiful ship.

I would assume that that's still the main reason. The TNG ships didn't have anything approaching the level of detailing necessary to appear on the big screen screen, and the models were too small to detail them to that level anyway, IIRC.
The BOP was built for a movie, so it was all set to go.
In that case, I'd have rather they re-used the K'tinga battlecruiser model. 
At least that might have been a better match for the D at least conceptually, and they'd have had to do a new explosion effect for it, which at that point we hadn't seen. It might have also fit more logically with the notion that the Duras sisters could only get their hands on an old ship.

Yeah, I wouldn't have minded an ole K'tinga battlewagon taking down the D, if it must happen.
