March Madness Discussion

If Rutgers plays to its potential, they're the only team that can stop UConn's national championship run—mostly because unlike most teams, the Huskies possess no mystique for RU. They've beaten them before, they'll do it again.

Unfortunately, the Lady Knights could also lose to Purdue next round.

As to the men's tournament: We have what, five Big East teams in the Sweet Sixteen? That pretty much settles the "best conference" discussion for this year, I'd say.

Well we're back! UConn beats Purdue - I think Washington could have taken them! Meanwhile Pitt plays badly again but escapes with the victory over Xavier. I have them winning it all, do they have to make me nervous every round?

Mizzou up early 5-0 on Memphis. Should be a good fast-paced game!

The Mizzou game interests me, but my real interest will be Nova-Duke (which I assume it'll cut to in a minute for me).

Pitt might make it as far as the Final Four, but I think their proverbial ticket is soon to be punched. All three of their tournament opponents probably should have beaten them, but in each case they were resilient enough. I just don't know how much the Panthers have left in them.

The game is close so far, but Villanova is really outplaying Duke.

Well, I just checked my bracket and I actually picked 'Nova. Hooray! :)

I've got Nova and Mizzou on my second chance bracket $5000 contest! Woo hoo!!!! :)

And Xavier. :scream: Pitt just had to make that three pointer at the very last. They just had to do it. Just like with my Cowboys, they lollygag half the game, turn it on for a few minutes and ruin my bracket.

I hate them. :klingon:

I hate to use a cliche, but in this game... Duke sucks! They look like a middle-school JV team out there right now!

Why did I pick Purdue. I saw what UConn was doing last weekend and I regret some of my decisions in bracket picking. Oh well. At least Nova and Mizzou are winning and that helps me quite a bit.

Losing Memphis hurts - I had them in the Final Four. I know some had them in the championship though. 3/4 tonight. Tomorrow - Go Gonzaga!

I had Purdue in the final 4, so watching Uconn last week kind of made me think tonight was going to not be good. Still, 3/4 with some good picks tomorrow is not that bad. I am losing some home for Pitt though. They look like the weakest number 1 team in the tournament, and weren't they ranked 1 overall? They haven't really shown me that deserve it much like UConn and UNC have.

Louisville is the top #1 seed. I have a feeling about Pitt though... after playing some tough games they're going to come out and get their game on, while NC and UConn may fall after some easy ones. :)

Well, I'm glad I picked Mizzou and Nova (even if it wasn't based on anything rational). I live to watch another round.

still liking my bracket. Playing with the scenario generator, about half of the results end up with me winning, so can't complain. Louisville cinches it for me, but I win in a bunch of the UConn win scenarios too. Running scenarios with Pitt doesn't seem worth the time, so just UNC that can make mine interesting...

Based on what I've been reading and seeing this morning, Xavier very easily could have beaten Pitt. Maybe even should have beaten them. I knwo that Pitt is still winning, no matter how ugly it appears.... but it seems more like a "living dangerously" theme.

Connecticut didn't exactly sound impressive in their win over Purdue, either. I'd feel MUCH better about their chances if they had Dyson, but that's going to happen.

OTOH, Missouri was incredible against Memphis. They built up that big lead and lost all bu 4 pts of it... yet made the BIG plays when it counted most. If Memphis had kept dribble-drivign inside, they might have pulled it off, but Mizzou was strong hen they had to be.

Personally, I thought 'Nova was the most impressive of the teams playing last night. They shredded Duke in every possible.

I also had Memphis in the Final Four- pretty much ended any hope I had of winning the pick'em.

So now I'll just root for the teams I drew for my money boards. I have UConn on one, Gonzaga on another and 'Nova on the board with the biggest payoff.

Rutgers only chance to beat UConn is to beat them up physically. They are a team with a brute mentality that isn't even close to UConn from a pure talent standpoint. Not gonna happen.

The men's tourney is completely up for grabs at this point.

Last night was devastating to my brackets. Thanks a lot, Memphis and Duke! :scream: I won't be completely screwed until/unless North Carolina loses, so at least it's not a total loss.

On the other hand, the fact that Memphis lost was almost made up for by that monster 3-point shot Missouri made just before halftime! That had to be the most beautiful thing I've seen this whole season!

I've heard some people say already that this tournament has been fantastic. Well, after tonight's blowouts, I have to strongly disagree. Man Louisville and Oklahoma crucified their opponents tonight.

^The tournament was looking pretty decent early on, but now it's devolved into hopeless mismatches. Arizona had no business playing Louisville, and I'm so disappointed in Syracuse. I thought those boys were made of sterner stuff. I just hope UNC doesn't let Gonzaga (who beat Tennessee TWICE this season) get the drop on them. :brickwall:
