historic; JAY GARRICK FLASH!!!!

is VAMPIRE BAT a real character? Or was that a BRAVE/BOLD creation???

I ran across him briefly in some multiverse thing or another, a 52 or Countdown to Final Crisis off shoot perhaps. But I think the character has origins prior to that.

Cool...by the way. In the B/B episode where BATMAN went to Owlman's world, they seemed to say it was EARTH 23...is that really a world now in DC's continuity? Earth 23? And is it like that, in someway, in the comics too?

Rob

The vampire Batman was just one of several alternate-reality Batmen that "our" Bats recruited to help him beat the Injustice Syndicate. They also included a Zorro Batman, a giant-headed telekinetic Batman, a cowboy Batman, a Hulk-type Batman, and a Batman in a high-tech armor suit. No doubt an homage to the many weird variations on Batman seen in '50s comics (the big-headed Batman in particular looked like something from that era), though some may be Elseworlds homages.

It was loosely based on pre-Crisis DC's Earth-3, home to the Crime Syndicate, evil versions of the Justice League. Ultraman for Superman, Owlman for Batman, Superwoman for Wonder Woman, etc. The new DC multiverse that was recently created has a similar Earth-3. No Earth-23 has been seen yet in the comics.

So how is B&TB?

As I've noted before, I quickly dismissed it, but not afraid to admit I got this one wrong. It had a shaky start. Or perhaps, in fairness to the show, it took a couple of episodes to get used to the style as it is very different in tone and target demographic than the DC animated shows that came before it.

Either way it is Batman as breezy family all ages fun. And I mean that in a good way. The plots are simple, but not insultingly so, and they touch the four corners of the DCU in ways I never expected. Owlman, Red Hood and a Vampire Batman in the same episode, for example.

My son's favorite scene so far, and it was funny, is when Joker is in the Batmobil and keeps asking batman what this or that button does...then he presses the one that sprays him with knock-out gas after Batman tells him "you REALLY don't want to touch that one"...yeah, I know..it was silly...but if it makes me and my son laugh? I love it even more.

Classic...

Rob

Oh, man, tell me about it! My six year old son and I are both fans, and that particular scene had him laughing harder than I've seen him laugh in quite awhile! For a couple of days, anytime we'd get in the car, he had to mimic the Joker's, "What does this one do? PSSSHHHHHHT", then laugh like crazy. Anything we can both get into that much is absolute gold as far as I'm concerned!

Chris...we are still WATCHING that episode.

My son and I, every night, play BRAVE AND THE BOLD. We have been collecting the INFINITE CRISIS two-inch figures (most of them we had to get on EBAY so it has been expensive)...but we got the BATCAVE set from the IMAGINEX toyland, and the jungle set too...and we use the INFINITE crisis figures and just play for about 45 minutes or so...it is a nightly thing and reallly is my favorite time of the day...we got the big ANTI-MONITOR heroclix figure for 70$ just to use it when we play...and ANTI-MONITOR only is used on rare occaisions..

My sons favorite hero is Hal Jordan, though Guy Gardner isn't far behind. Superman too...but our recent argument, if you can call it that? Ever since he got into comic-heros when he was three, he has preferred EARTH ONE heros...but now?? He wants to claim DR FATE and ALAN SCOTT and all those earth-two heros as his....I am standing my ground!!! Noway..the gray haired ones are mine...

such fun...My own father was never into comics or star trek so for me? Its like being a kid again..and I wouldn't trade it for anything...

Vampire Batman is from the Batman/Dracula trilogy that started with Red Rain. In it, Batman faces down a very powerful, charismatic version of Dracula (Think Buffy-Drac mixed with Marvel's Tomb Of D) who has a Ra's type master plan that can only be stopped if Batman...you guessed it. At first, Batman plans to protect Gotham forever, but the leaderless vamps turn to the Joker, and the blood-lust Batman must summon up to stop them makes him too dangerous to be free, so he consents to being entombed by Alfred. In the finale, Alfred frees him one last time to deal with the remaining criminals, then out of control themselves. Batman is either tricked into remaining or decides to remain outside at dawn, with only Gordon living past the final battle.

A diecast figure exists, not of Vamp Bats precisely, but with a similar look, especially the overlong ears and cape.

Wow..I have that figure. I always wondered what was up with that. My son doesn't like it for obvious reasons...

And wow, I do remember Earth-three...Ultraman, Superwoman, Olwman, Johnny Quick, Power Ring..I think thats all of them..I think their world is one of the first ones that was destroyed in CRISIS OF INFINITE EARTHS...

Rob

We have him facing off against a diecast Kato that came with the Black Beauty 1/43 by Corgi. The Crime Syndicate's Earth was also one of the first worlds destroyed in JLA/Avengers, drawn by Crisis vet George Perez.

One of the posters on this site, I think GREG COX, his wife actually makes molds for some of the DC line. I cant remember now what she had done, but at the time he mentioned it, we were getting them. I think the ALL STAR line or something like that...

Could you imagine getting to do something like that??? Cool!!!

"Trials of the Demon!" was a great episode - maybe the best so far. The show is going on hiatus for a few weeks now. I believe it'll return in either late April or early May. The second season pickup for another 26 episodes (which I started a thread about a while back) was officially announced by Cartoon Network yesterday.

Newsarama has an interview with Diedrich Bader in which some of the upcoming voice actors are revealed:

Paul Reubens as Bat-Mite
Tara Strong as Huntress
Grey Delisle as Black Canary
Armin Shimmerman as The Calculator

You made my day you crazy vulcan..it has been picked up for another season!! yeah...

Ummm..have they hinted at what Huntress this will be? Man, if it was his daughter (which I doubt they will do) that would be great..and when is this JSA episode? We have already seen WILDCAT and DR.FATE and now JAY GARRICK...throw in HUNTRESS and wow..you almost have the JSA and ALL STAR SQUADRON...wouldn't it be great if they have the STAR SPANGLED KID???

Well..anyway..thanks for the great news...you have earned your pay for the week...

Hm. Well, they were saying it would be a familiar name that was somehow appropriate. It's a bit tenuous, but Reubens played Penguin's father in Batman Returns.

Tara Strong as Huntress
Grey Delisle as Black Canary

Cool. Always happy to hear from them. Strong's an interesting choice -- she was Batgirl in The New Batman Adventures, as well as Vicki Vale in The Batman vs. Dracula.

Armin Shimmerman as The Calculator

Neat.

It'll probably be Helena Bertinelli Huntress. JL Unlimited had the last incarnation of Star Spangled Kid (Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E.) but I can't recall ever seeing the Sylvester Pemberton version.

I'd kinda like to see the original The Atom somehow team up with Bats...neither has any super abilities. It would make an interesting pairing. Maybe they could take on Per Degaton.

Cool...Garrick's "Mercury/Hermes Helmet" was always a favorite...that, plus no mask and simple trousers and a T-shirt always made him seem extra cool to me. :techman:

Totally agree...When I was reading those old JLA/JSA crisis comic books, I always hoped Flash from Earth-Two (Jay) would be in it. I loved that hemet...yeah, I know, Thor has one too...but who likes Marvel anway?? (Wink wink)..

They keep saying a JSA episode is coming up on BRAVE AND THE BOLD. well..we've had Dr.Fate..Flash...Wildcat already. All they need is Alan Scott (yeah right) and Spectre (no way) and Sandman (never happen) and then we'd almost have the entire team!!

It's also the easiest to dress up, red sweat shirt, blue jeans and a pie plate ;).
