What should change about the possible new Star Trek Experience?

A very good friend of mine brought her uber-non-Trekkie sister to the place. She had so much fun that the next night, after an hour of hitting the Strip and more trendy joints, she asked to go back to Quark's.

Bottom-line is good customer service and a fun environment will make believers out of anyone.

While my wife is not a complete non-fan, she is definitely not at my level of fandom and she had pretty much the same reaction as your friend's sister. She really like Quark's too and wanted to go back for drinks whenever we could. My friend and wife enjoying drinks at Quarks

It's too bad they couldn't have a bar/resturaunt from all the series: 602 from Enterprise, a dining hall modeled after the captain's mess on the Enterprise-A&TOS, Ten foward from TNG, Quark's from DS9, and a resturaunt modeled after the Mess Hall in Voyager.

That would be great. Years before the Experience opened I always thought how great it would be to go to a restaurant that was an exact replica of Ten Forward.

I'd like the bar and the promenade to look MORE like DS9 and less generic sci-fi like with Trek accents.

I have to agree with you there. I was expecting/hoping it to look a little more like this when I first went:

(Ignore the McDonald's and Starbucks signs. This was something I threw together for the PhotoShop Trek thread.)

LOL!!! When I posted that, I was thinking he's lucky the last copy he'd made wasn't to some weird fetish site. :guffaw:

That's one you'd never live down around here.

That was the original plan and for the first few years there was an upper level that only the aliens could get to but if you looked up from the ground level, you could see out the DS9 windows.

There was originally supposed to be an upper level to Quark's but as the original opening got pushed back and the project started going over budget, they decided to hold off until after the place opened to finish it. That got postponed and eventually the upper level was used for storage. Also the usable area was not all that usable. Years after I left, one of the GMs who also used to be the Tech Supervisor decided to floor/ceiling-over the openings in the Promenade to create more space for what eventually became the Captain's Lounge. While STTE lost the more authentic feel of DS9, it gained a very usable meeting area which generated a lot more revenue for the place. Hopefully the planners at STTE-A will be able to do both.

That link doesn't go where you think it goes. :)

Oops! :alienblush: Thanks for pointing that out.

I fixed the link in the original post but here is what I meant to post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OurHfSZowRM

Thank God! Although I'm at work so there was no chance of that happening. At any rate maybe I helped some allergy sufferers!

Just in case anyone is curious...I recently was in Vegas (March 2-6) and went to Neonopolis to see if I could spot anything as to where STTE-A was going to be located. I shot some video footage and posted it here:

Unfortunately, there is not much there yet at all. In my opinion, they have there work cut out for them to make the May 8th deadline...

BTW, this is my first post on here. Thanks to everyone that has been posting info here and feeding my desparate need for any and all STTE-A info!

Thanks to TheSeeker for your warm welcome!

For anyone interested, I just created a new thread in the General Discussion area for discussion of a possible Star Trek return to the small screen. (Thread name: A new Star Trek series?) I read that Bryan Fuller (currently writing for Heroes) is pushing to get a new Trek series on the air.

Hey interesting, thanks for that. I was actually wanting to go check that out myself sometime, so that saves me a trip going downtown haha.

One thing I think would be cool is if they have an arcade with all kinds of star trek games! And...DDR just for the hell of it coz it's fun :p

The Las Vegas Sun had a new article on the Neonopolis developement posted on March 16th. STTE-A is featured prominantly, but sadly no new news. Also, they are still adamately sticking to the May 8th opening date. Does anyone have any recent pics/video? It's been 3 weeks since I was there, and it looked like they had barely done any construction. I would love to be there for the grand opening, but based on how it looked then, it seems like there's no way it will done by then. It scares me that they keep promising a date and that they won't be able to deliver. After all, May 8th is only 6 weeks away!

As reported by some friends and STTE Classic employees over in Trekspace.org, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of construction going on so the May 8 date seems improbable. Certainly such STTE mainstays as April and Darren have not gotten a call to return yet. The new theory is that some sort of groundbreaking ceremony may take place on that date with the movie itself showing at the Galaxy Theatres.

All guessing based on little info.

Thanks for the info Biggshow. Having just been to Neonopolis 3 weeks ago, I would say the assumption that construction will START on May 8th, seems to be a valid one. At this rate, I believe having any part of it ready, even for the convention, seems like pushing it...

BTW, I MUST check out Trekspace.org...thanks!

One thing i think worth considering, is that they never planned to open the whole thing on May 8th. my understanding is that they plan to open in phases, with the bar/restaurant being the first part. it is entirely possible that this can be done by May 8th. A lot of my work involves looking at shop fits and the relative time needed, and i would be willing to bet that Quarks could be thrown together in less than a month so there is no hurry to set the place up.

It's the "thrown together" part of that that worries me.:)

Q.F.T.

If they're only doing the restaurant and bar, I guess it's doable. I just don't want them to rush in a cheap mock-up of what was, then figure that it's "good enough" since people are going to it, and decide not to upgrade it or really make it integrated with the rest of the attraction to come.

I'd rather they just take their time, plan a fully integrated Experience and open it all at once.

Don't get me wrong; I actually think opening in stages is a sound business model for the current times. I also think there should be a plan to it all. So maybe we're both right.

Yes, a plan would easy my worries. I just fear they'll throw up a Quark's with a few props on the wall in there and when Trekkies flock to it (because we will), they'll decide that's "good enough", rather than sticking to a well thought-out plan for the full Experience. Then one day, after they build the ride, you have to leave Quark's, stroll past the Starbucks and the Sunglass Hut to get to the ride entrance. You know what I mean? I fear a "Strip Mall Experience".

Interesting that some of the design sketches include a large-scale mock-up of the movie Enterprise, with an escalator leading into the docking port on the secondary hall, are seen in that report.
