OLD WOMEN SHOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO OPERATE THE HEAT CONTROL!

^the situation is a bit more volitile than that, you can't fire a woman for being hormonal
She tampered with a unit that was clearly marked stating not to do so; therefore, she violated a company policy and caused a shutdown/delay.

One office I where I worked had my cube right under a ventilation outlet. For a couple of weeks, I was almost a Popsicle until I found the controls. The damned temp was set below 60º :klingon: I turned it up to 65º and then the war was on with the mystery person. Turns out that the vent system also included an enclosed office space where some pregnant woman was working. She was livid because she was "uncomfortably hot" and needed to be comfortable. My supervisor had a chat with her supervisor, and both agreed that I shouldn't have to freeze to death just because of her condition, so a compromise was reached for the thermostat to be set to 63º. :)

No but you can fire someone for disrupting production and causing delayed shipments. You can fire someone for ignoring a procedure, and you can fire her when she claims "well I couldn't read the sign."

She's gone.

In more technical language the discharge was "due to violation of written procedure resulting in delayed production in excess of $25,000 and disruption of processes from violation of procedures."

To be fair though, I did grab the document that gets viewed by the state and put "laid off due to lack of work" rather than "fired" so she can get unemployment. :) Asshole am I, but not a evil asshole. :) My boss ok'd that as well so while she's not working, she's not without an income. The only ones who will ever know why she was "fired" will be me, my boss, and the QC manager.

I'd just be reluctant to fire anyone in tough times like these.

Indeed, but on the other hand you can't keep someone on who cost the company 16 hours worth of production time. Times like this you need to go out of your way to be sure you are doing EVERYTHING right so you don't come to management's notice.
There's also the fact that she put other peoples jobs at risk as well. Bad products, pooched deadlines, etc, all of which can lead to a loss of contracts or revenue and end up putting more than just her out of a job.
220? pffffft, try 1280, so you can hear it from more than 6 inces away
Where's the fun is they have a warning? All the better that a few get fried as an example to others.

Bah, my boss is too cheap for that, highest we go is 480. No way in hell he'd splurge for that much power even if it is to vaporize people. :D

:guffaw:
What you need, for the laugh, is a cheapr red laser pointer that dots their forehead and a chip that makes the sound of a shotgun racking when someone fucks with the lock box.

^he could run it ilke a Suicide Booth, and charge a dollar per use

New HR policy: "If you can survive the thermostat lock box you get to keep your job...GO!"

Or just several laser-pointers in the area... make it look like there are multiple snipers watching your hand, your head, your ass and your neck.

Also some "fake gore" and blood splattered on the floor and box.

Questions: Where do I work? Where is the company located? What is her name? Where does she live? And of the hundreds of thousands of unemployment claims that NY State is processing what makes you think they search google for shit like this?

Hmm yeah, and now the whole interwebz knows, thanks to the wonderfull powers of Google. Way to go man ;)
Hey, at least she wasn't a member of the this board....talk about awkward.

Yeah come to find out I fired T'Bonz or something like that.

Seriously, No worries there, this woman had a difficult time with the simple login-logout and data-entry work in her area. We kept her on because despite technology kicking her butt she was very very good at making wiring harnesses from plans.

Anyone else ever have to deal with this sort of company-wide SNAFU caused by a single worker who felt the rules don't apply to him/her/it?
Corporate wise? Nope. Every place I worked has centralized control to the HVAC system that employees were not able to touch. So I suggest either locking the HVAC controls to keep her grubby, arthritic paws off them, The other option is to take her out back and shoot her, and bill her estate for the cost of the round and clean up. I prefer the latter of course. It sends a clearer message to your fellow employees.

Now on the home front, my lovely bride could be sitting on the surface of the sun and complain that it was too cold for her.

actually, your lucky you don't work at a mercedez-benz plant, 6 minutes into an unschedualed shutdown and you have a VP breathing down your neck

Okay - hands up those who think that working for Frontline is more than there life is working ?:)
