Comic book suggestions

Commander
Red Shirt
So recently I have read "Watchmen" and the "Killing Joke" and I have enjoyed both very much.

I want to get into comics a bit more but since there is such a vast selection, I have no idea were to start. If you guys have any suggestions please tell me.

Oh, and I don't care if its Marvel or DC (I like both).

DC:

Superman: Red Son
Kingdom Come

Marvel:

The Incredible Hercules
Ed Brubaker's Captain America collections
Daredevil: Born Again

This is just a smattering of stuff I'd recommend reading, but it crosses lots of genres, so you may want to google before buying. This goes from some fluffy stuff to more serious fare.

DC
"The Dark Knight Returns"
"Birds of Prey" (there should be a ton of collected trades at this point)
"Manhunter" (the recent series)
"Outsiders"
"V for Vendetta"

Vertigo (DC Imprint)
"Sandman"
"Death" (there are at least two graphic novels, the first being "The High Cost of Living")
"Fables"
"Jack of Fables"
"Y The Last Man"
"Hellblazer"

America's Best Comics (sub-imprint of DC Comics)
"Top 10" (which itself has many spinoffs including "Top Ten: Beyond the farthest precinct")
"Tom Strong"
"Promethea"

Marvel
"Runaways"
"The New Warriors" (the recent series that just concluded last month)
"She Hulk"
"Spider-Girl"

IDW
"Fallen Angel"

- V for Vendetta (even if you saw the movie, erase those memories and read this)

- Y: The Last Man

- Marvels (Alex Ross paintings grab you, Kurt Busiek's writing keeps you)

- Fables

DC:
Kingdom Come
The Long Halloween
Grant Morrison's JLA run
The Sinestro Corps War vol.1 and 2.

Vertigo:
Preacher
Sandman

Marvel:
The Dark Phoenix Saga
Garth Ennis's Punisher run
Frank Miller's Daredevil run
Marvels
Nextwave

Other:
Garth Ennis's The Boys. It's like The Watchmen, but way more hilarious and fucked up. It's one of the best send ups of the comic industry I've ever seen. Like all Ennis books, not for the faint of heart or easily offended.

James Robinsons 80 issue run on Starman.
The whole series is in TPB and DC has started doing Omnibus versions.
Great read.
Robinson took the history of a character that had managed to have 6 or 7 variations with little to no tied continuity and made it tight. Hawkman only wishes he could have had Robinson clean his backstory and history up as nice.

Marvel's The West Coast Avengers always tickled my fancy back in the day when I collected Marvel's G1 TF comic books:hugegrin:

But I never bought any:(

That might be a good series to try out:vulcan:

Being TF took place in Oregon I assumed TWCA happened in the same canonuity. Was a  thought. What sparked my curiosity about TWCA.

But, apparently, G1 TF comix existed in their own isolated canonuity:mad:

Saving grace there is Peter Parker/Spider-Man has a counterpart in the universe of the G1 TF comicverse:)

Guess Marvel's G1 TF series happened on Earth 615 or 617 yes:confused:

Add me to the chorus for Y: The Last Man. Fantastic series

Also worth checking out:
The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman
Sandman by Neil Gaiman
Lucifer by Mike Carey (a spinoff from the Sandman series)

Sandman, Walking dead, Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol#1(recently rereleased) The Boys ( I LOVE THIS SERIES ) Alex Ross's KINGDOM KOME, Anything JUDGE DREDD,( IGNORE THE MOVIE!) And of course if you can afford it,(and find it) various back issue's of Alan Moore's (and later Niel Gaiman's) truelly gorundbraking MIRACLEMAN. Trust me you will never see MM in trades anytime soon due to legal issue's.:(

The Dark Knight Returns

Marvels

Kingdom Come

Y: The Last Man

Xmen: God Loves, Man Kills tpb

Xmen: Days of Future Past tpb

Elektra Assassin
Larry Gronick's Cartoon History Of The Universe
X-Men Death Of Pheonix Saga
