Dude...to say you broke the COOL / BADASS SCALE with this is the understatement of the ten-year history of the Trek BBS.

Frickin' AWESOME. That rawked.

:techman:

^^ The basic story idea was a Starfleet flag officer commands the prototype Excelsior on its shakedown trials. This flag officer is something of an outspoken critic of Starfleet's and the Federation's detente like approach with the Klingons and as a result he thinks that Starfleet is too soft to be held in respect and that the UFP is just ripe for someone badass to take it on (which kinda reveals a hate/respect feeling towards the Klingons).

As such he hatches a plan to use the Excelsior to foment a conflict between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. He uses the Excelsior to sneak attack both sides--not only Klingon ships along the frontier but also Federation ships investigating what's going on.

While at a routine stopover at a Starpost Kirk gets a heads-up from the post's commander, an Andorian. Kirk has secret orders to track down the Excelsior and its rogue commander after hooking up with a Starfleet squadron to bring him in, or failing that blowing him out of the sky.

The Enterprise heads out encountering wrecked Klingon and Starfleet ships along the way. Eventually they find the Excelsior but the Enterprise and its squadron are soon forced to withdraw after losing one ship and another being seriously damaged. And the rogue Commodore cannot be swayed in calling off his scheme.

Things get more complicated when a Klingon squadron shows up determined to finish off the Excelsior and an insterstellar war hangs in the balance after years of (overt) nonagression. Kirk elects for some fast talking to convince his Klingon counterpart that the war would gain neither side anything and that they should allign themselves together to defeat the Excelsior. The Klingon eventually agrees.

Eventually the Excelsior is seriously damaged and forced to surrender., but is faced with a new problem. The Enterprise is now faced with two Klingon warships ready to claim the Excelsior and crew as a just prize while the Commodor is ready to blow up his ship to keep it from them--something the Klingons would actually respect.

Kirk can't accept the immense loss of life so he proposes an alternative to all parties: allow the Enterprise to take off survivors of the Excelsior's crew, the Excelsior itself must be destroyed by the Klingons and the Commodore must surrender himself to them for trial at their hands.

The Commodore eventually agrees in order to save his crew who only followed his orders (and will still have to answer to Federation justice) as do the Klingons who see fairness in the proposal. They only have one condition: Kirk must be seen to destroy the Excelsior himself as an act of good faith.

Kirk agrees even though he's sure he'll be getting a royal grilling by Starfleet and Federation brass. The survivors are retreived, the Commodore is taken by the Klingons and the Enterprise summarily blows the Excelsior from the sky.

The last scene I envisioned was the Commodore standing defiantly before the Commander of the Klingon squadron.

Commodore: "Filthy bastard. You should know I won't tell you anything."
Klingon Commander, nodding reflectively: "Of course, Commodore. I expect no less. But, of course, I will not be the one asking the questions." he adds quietly.

Fade out....

That is wickedly awesome, Warped9, both images and story. (Even if the Excelsior has to be destroyed in it. :p)

Good casting on the Commodore. Who's playing the Andorian? Martin Landau?

^^ Kang. Er, Michael Ansara. :D

Here's some continuity run amok.

Ah, Michael Ansara. No wonder the face looked familiar.

Those rock too. I particularly like the TOS crew in the TNG uniforms, Data in blue (still a mistake to have not done that IMO) and the final shot. Now that would have been an interesting version of 'Generations.' :rommie:

Those crew mockups are great! Excellent editing jobs... the toughest part is getting lighting to match between the spliced images and these look amazingly good. Riker and Data look at home in their TOS uniforms, but there's something about Picard that just doesn't look right. ;)

With all the advances in CGI lately, I don't think it'll be too long before you can completely model an actor's face and stick them on any body you wish, seamlessly, and create entire teleplay as if the real actor had portrayed it.

I always wanted to see Ruth or a past love of Kirk's on the Enterprise for a reunion story.

Did I see the Ion ship from Spock's Brain in one of those images (the one with the asteroid base)?

Good eye! I missed that one. Tucked away in the upper right hand corner. :)

It was such a ridiculous looking ship and the effects in the original print were awful... But shrinking it seems to have done it some good. ;) I'm glad they redesigned it in the remastered version.

These are great photos--nice work, Warped9!

I particularly like the idea of arranging crew members that never met during the series. You could really end up doing a "slide show" episode, a story that never made it to film... ;)

Well then you will enjoy this. Warped9 created a series of pictures based on a hypothetical new Star Trek TV Series called "Star Trek: New Era" done in the stye of TMP. It starts here near the bottom of Page 43. Here is a link to Page 1 out of 63 pages of Warped9's thread. Warped9 started this thread in the Art Forum in 2004. The whole thread is wonderful.

You need a website all your own to display this stuff.

QFT mega time.

Nifty. Wouldn't he probably be wearing command gold, though? I could see him staying at helm and still being XO.
