Article here.

DIRECTOR JJ Abrams' new Star Trek movie will have its world premiere at the Sydney Opera House next month, presented by Aussie star Eric Bana.

Abrams, Bana and co-stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban will present the blockbuster to 1600 tastemakers in art, design, entertainment, fashion, media and politics on April 7.

Now how the hell do I get a ticket?? :scream:

Hey, I'm in Sydney and I can be a tastemaker. ;)

Actually, I do know a few local likely invitees. I hope they get double passes.

Pfftt, are these "tastemakers" actual fans? Have they ever even heard of Trek??

We fans matter more. :p :D

I was at the huge Sydney gala premiere for Star Trek IV in the 80s. I actually helped to organise it! We had to find 100 genuine Star Trek fans in costume for that night. The rest were over 1000 celebrities and "tastemakers": soapie stars of the day, plus representatives of the business world, advertising gurus, magazine editors, TV movie buffs and pro newspaper reviewers... and Jeanne Little.

And many of them were huge Star Trek fans.

And yeah, these people are essential to spread the word to the masses that the new movie's worth seeing.

I hope Roslin, Baltar and Hera enjoy the premiere. :)

1600 people? "The wait is over:" we'll know all the major plot points and spoilers for the movie by April 9th.

Yeah, my thought exactly. I'm going to have to really test my will by trying to avoid this site altogether between 4/9 and 5/8.:( Every thread will likely be spoilers.

Yeah, I think my rule from here on out will be to only read reviews of the movie that aren't filled with spoilers beyond what I already know.

Not that Nemesis was great, but one thing that really ruined it for me was that I knew everything about the story, every major plot point before I even saw the movie...

Don't want to repeat that mistake.

Same here; I really don't want to know every detail of the plot before I see the movie. But where will I get the strength to resist spoilers..

I was going to say something along those lines but I was afraid of starting a BSG vs Star Trek war.

(BSG would win btw)

Now can I get a ticket for that?? I might even travel town there for the day.
That seems to be the sort of event for which, if you're not already on the guest list or know someone who is, you wouldn't be able to buy a ticket at any price. Closed party, is the impression I get.

Well I'd think a couple people here would sell their car, Xbox, DVDs, second computer (but not their first), go to the blood and sperm bank, just so they can have enough money to go to Australia and see the premiere so they can be the first to tell us how right they were that it sucked and wasn't worth their time.

Free booze, now I want to go!

As I said, I was at the huge Sydney gala premiere for Star Trek IV in the 80s. And yes, the alcohol was free-running. Colourful vodka cocktails, Romulan ale, whatever. As many as you could drink. Many of the celebs were dozing through the movie, but they'd already sat through a long awards show. They did wake up for the disco afterwards, though.
