Reset Button at the end of Star Trek? *Potentially Major Spoilers*

Hey!
I ABSOLUTELY HATE Bobby Ewing/"Dallas" shower scenes, not to mention holodeck simulations a la ENT "These are the Voyages..."! Please come up with something better, will you? :wtf:

Jeeze, people.

The new timeline that the movie establishes will be the new timeline for the 'franchise'. That means, for the powers that be, everything Trek from 1996 through 2008 has been thrown out the window. How this continues to surprise anyone is beyond me.

What about this? As implausible as it might be, I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility that the new Enterprise may only be making one appearance...this film only. What if there is another design that we haven't seen yet, much more similar to the TOS version, and that design is being kept under wraps until the final scene of the film when everything gets reset? Then THAT Enterprise and all the continuity that we are familiar with can continue on in new movies, with the timeline properly restored.

What exactly would be the point of that? To go back to the things that have already been done and that we already know? :vulcan:

If you want a last glimpse at the TOS Enterprise, how about a short bleeding between the two diverging quantum realities during which both ships can see each other before the rift closes forever?

For canon's sake, everything that happened in the TOS, TNG et al. prime timeline will remain as it was and will continue as somebody will see fit (novels, comics, Star Trek Online and what have you).

For those projects, that continuity will be around, sure, just like as they have been for years and years. But for the sake of the mainstay of the franchise, the motion pictures, this is a reset button, and a chance to jettison the shows and previous movies so they can, "make a New Star Trek for a younger, more hip generation".

And statements past that point by any powers that be are sheer fanboi pandering and an anemic way to say 'your Trek isn't dead, see? It's in another dimension'.

Yup. Ain't it cool? :techman:

Why even bother pandering to fanbois? There's no pleasing them. Time to knock the dust off this stale franchise and enjoy the fact we're lucky enough to see Trek on the big screen, in whatever form it may be.

"It's not dead. It's just pining for the fjords."

Just out of real personal interest, how would you like to see the future of the Star Trek franchise (be it feature films or a new TV series)? My mind is wiped clean when I try to think about anything new post-'Nemesis'. I even think that everything post-'First Contact' was weak at its best...

... a chance to jettison the shows and previous movies...

Here we go again... Nobody jettisons anything! But then again, this dispute and others like it have been fought over thousands of times over the last year or so without any result whatsoever.

Well, I hit the big four-oh last year and don't see myself as either young or hip, but I know what I don't like - and I like the nuTrek.

That's new. That's unusual. Nothing I've written was ever commented as 'anemic'. I don't want to go into fanboi pandering, though, not at my age...

I really doubt they're going to reset the movie at the end.

I don't think this is something that Abrams would do. Also, I am trying to keep level-headed about this: this is a pretty highly anticipated movie, and that coupled with Abrams' secrecy ... who wouldn't want to say this sort of stuff and ride the anticipation? Seems like someone is trying to steal the spotlight / troll. Seen it before, will see it again.
