Season Five of E:FC wasn't completely bad. If you watch the premiere, Kevin Kilner's two episodes, Anita's 2 episodes, and then the last 2 episodes of the season... you actually have something really good. The rest is really just filler.

The second episode with Boone (which was also when they brought back Zo'or) is mildly entertaining. Doesn't really hold a candle to other seasons, but amongst the pile of shit that is S5, it seems golden.

But that is the only episode of the season I can stomach. The rest of it was just...no.

I hope they get around to releasing season 2 soon too. It's the only season that hasn't been released anywhere in the world (that I know of). It's the weakest of the first four seasons, but it's worth it just for the finale anyway, and a lot of the second half is pretty interesting.

I'm astonished that this set is getting actual extras. Commentaries no less. I'm definitely looking forward to that.

My only concern is that the commentaries are mostly by Gene's son and I fear they may be relatively worthless. Was he that involved in the production?

I remember the Season 5 episode with Margot Kidder guest starring being relatively un-bad. But that's the only episode from that season I remember enjoying - INCLUDING the ones with Boone.

I actually preferred Liam Kincaid over William Boone.

The actor who replaced Kevin Kilner, Robert Leeshock, was certainly a better actor, at least IMO. I always felt that Kilner's woodenness was the weak link among the main cast in Season 1. He did seem to be getting better though, which is understandable. The problem is that the character was invaluable to the show, despite the weakness of the acting. That and the replacement character, more specifically his often deux ex machina alien powers, had no place on the show (which is why his powers were phased out beginning in late season 2, and were completely gone just a few episodes into season 3). In short, Kilner's departure managed to really hurt the show in spite of the fact that I actually like the actor who replaced him more.

Interesting that this is full-frame, when seasons 3-5 were widescreen. I wonder if Universal was too cheap to get the widescreen masters, and just used the ones they already had for VHS, or if EFC actually switched somewhere between seasons 1 and 3.

Hopefully Universal will follow this up with a season 2 release in short order...

Finally! I've only been waiting for this for what seems like an eternity. Being a fan of the entire series i cant wait to begin to complete the 5 seasons of dvd's (assuming season 2 will make it).

....and i am man enough to admit i like the season 5 episode where Renee Palmer and Street go to that Atavus health spa. Golden!

Considering how trashy & pandering the show was at that point, you'd think they'd at least give us a bone and try a little more Renee Palmer/J Street fanservice.

Season 1 was a very good season of tv scifi. I never cared to much for the parts of 2-4 that I saw and I never saw a second of 5. I guess I didn't miss much there, eh?

If the whole series would've kept the quality of season 1 I would definitely be tempted to buy it on dvd, but, silly completist that I am in my dvd buying, I don't like to buy just one season of a show. And the other seasons don't really seem worth my money.

^ I'm normally the same way about my DVDs, but for EFC I'll make an exception. I so loved that first season - I've watched the episodes I have on VHS over and over again. I'm SO excited that I'll be able to throw away my old tapes and have nice clean DVDs. Plus we get a generous amount of special features for a show being released so long after its original airdate. I'm really excited about this.

I personally thought Kilner had more gravitas and was good at playing a flawed lead character.
