I saw this article at the weekend and was reminded of a certain 'style guru' mod.
So gentlemen of TrekBBS please try the quiz and post your scores on the 'vogue-o-meter' above. Let's see how trendy you all are really .

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/home/moslive/article-1158876/Test-style-IQ.html

It's not interactive so you may need the old fashioned pen and paper, score one point each correct answer and there is no need, I'm certain, to ask you for a truthful score, it is after all a bit of fun;)

(Ok pedants, choice 4 should be 18-22 but I couldn't edit it!)

I got a 12 as a result of the 33% chance of picking the correct answer

I still stand by my jeans and polo shirt :D

So, what do we do if our answer to every single question was "I have no freakin' idea!"? As long as I have jeans and a t-shirt, I'm happy!

I hate fashion tests. All fashion consists of is buying clothes that you hope other people wear while at the same time hoping it is slightly different so you don't all look the same. Wear what you like and what you think makes you look good. Fuck everything else.

You get sent on an intensive 'sartorial awareness weekend' complete with free suit measuring service, silk-wearing appreciation session and tweed samples;)

I scored thirteen--"stylish mind, now get the look." About what I expected.

I think I would like a moon-phase watch, now that I know they exist.

I also think that, at age forty, I can be excused for not knowing which mod styles are in for the spring of 2008/9.

And as for Question 21--good luck with that.

I knew at least half without needing to check, and checking would require more effort than I care to put into it. Any of the ones asking about 'this summer' I have no clue on, and don't really care.

it took too long to scroll from the question all they way down to the bottom to see the answer, so I didn't bother. don't they know how to do a quiz online properly? :p

This is the Fail on Sunday we're talking about.

I got 10, but most of those were pure guesses. Of those, I actually knew the one about fastening buttons on a suit, and figured out the ones about deodorizing shoes and making your bespoke suit (WTF is a "bespoke" suit?) last longer buy logic. The other 7, which turns out to be exactly how many one would expect to get right by guessing, were just random guesses. Had I only answered what I actually knew, I would have gotten 1.

Did warn you you'd have to break out the pen and paper, and it's me that couldn't be bothered to translate it for those too lazy :p

I eventually tried it again using the concise English-Gokwanese dictionary. :bolian: Still got 9.

I had no idea on any of these. I scored lower than a chimpanzee choosing randomly.

I got them all right (OK, I just happened to guess the denim one & the watch one correctly; I know diddly squat about jeans & watches) because I know how these writers think and what they were looking for, but I actually disagree with several of their answers:

5 - you can actually wear ANY type of suit if you're short provided it fits well and you fine-tune some of the details of the cut. For instance, if you go DB, you want a shorter jacket length to compensate for the style.

7 - some types of 2BSB suit are designed to button both buttons - for instance Jil Sander suits have a columnar cut that requires both buttons to be done up to complete the look.

8 - pocket squares are timeless style irrespective of transient fads

12 - blazer & skinny tie have been around for years now. Gingham shirt is a bit newer.

20 - sometimes neither is an acceptable option, depending on the look you're going for. For instance red socks with conservative suit and black shoes is a fairly classic look.

Bottom line, the quiz answers are lowest-common-denominator generalities, lacking nuance and real style. But that's about what you'd expect from the Mail, which caters to a similar readership...
