Tardis in Nightmare on Eden

Just got done watching Nightmare on Eden and you could see how scratched up the paint is on the Tardis. It really stands out, looks like its been dragged on its side.

My questions is why didnt they ever paint the dang thing and why didnt anyone fix it before it was aired?

Good episode btw.

short of asking someone involved in the production, im not sure you are going to get an answer, unless it was talked about on the directors commentary

More fitting to let the thing look a bit bedraggled. It is supposed to be a hapahazardly maintained antique, after all.

Not out on DVD yet, and there won't be a director's commentary, whoever else might be involved - the credited director, Alan Bromley, died in the 1990s and was, in any case, sacked during production; producer Graham Williams took over, but he died in a shooting accident in 1990 so he can't contribute either.
Given what a mess the Nightmare of Eden production became, the state of the TARDIS paintwork probably wasn't in the top 100 of things to worry about...

^ A "shooting accident"?? This must involve hunting rifles, right? I didn't think Brits could own/carry pistols. Or was it a robbery? Man, how did I not know this. Graham Williams wasn't the most awesome of producers, but he took a hard job and kept the show going between Hinchcliffe and JNT. Sad. :(

There used to be a lot of pistols around, and a lot more non hunting rifles/shotguns, but after the Hungerford and Dunblane massacres they were pretty much banned. I think hungerford was 87, Dunblane was definitely later though. There are still a lot of guns in the UK though, farmers with shotguns etc.

I'd say the answer would simply be because they could probably not afford to repaint the TARDIS every other week.

Somewhere online there's a history of the various police box props used throughout the series, some of them still exist in one form or another.

Enlightening! I knew that there were a good many rifles and shotguns and such, mainly in the rural areas (much like the American southern states). But, I didn't know that there was a proliferation of pistols there, as well. Certainly (as recently seen by the cop-killing) Ireland has its fair share of firearms that could easily slip through the English borders. I am relieved to know, however, that none of it is as bad as the US situation.

Shame about Graham Williams. I realize I'm coming into the mourning about twenty-years too late. But, still, it's like when I found out that Michael Craze (Ben Jackson) was dead. Information like that slips through the cracks of the media-creature some call the US "News"... ;)

Still a lot of guns around--though obviously illegal-- I think most of them hail from Eastern europe these days.

After Graham Williams retired from television, he ran a country hotel, the sort where guests go for hunting weekends; as far as I remember, a shotgun went off by accident during a shoot, and Williams was caught in the blast.
Think of Dick Cheney shooting his friend during a duck hunt a couple of years back, but with a more tragic outcome.
