Scifi/Fantasy's best Romance/movie

What SCIFI Romance was the greatest of all kind. It may have ended in tragedy, but still gives you goosebumps when you think about it. (Yes, another THREAD inspired by my wife)...here are mine (her) choices..

Princes Bride
Edward Scissorhands
The Sixth Sense (yeah, I scratched my head with this pick too)
Lea/Han from the first three STAR WARS movies (she means 4-5-6)
The Fifth Element (ummm..okay)

What are some of yours?

Rob
Scorpio

Han & Leia
Mulder & Scully
Crichton & Aeryn
Adama & Roslin
Sam & Kara
Kirk & Spock (I have a feeling we might be in for a big revival there in a couple months...)

"Time After Time," with Malcom McDowell and Mary Steenburgen. The one with H. G. Wells and Jack the Ripper.

(Not to be confused, although many people do, with "Somewhere in Time," with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.)

And I like BOTH of those movies..great picks. The music to SOMEWHERE IN TIME is one of the best soundtracks of all time...IMO

No slight was intended to SOMEWHERE IN TIME, which is also a classic movie. It's amazing how many people get the two films mixed up, though, probably because they came out around the same time.

Aragorn and Arwen...

...and for an out-of-the-past choice, how about Kimball Kinnison and Clarissa McDougall?

My family sometimes goes out to the little island in Michigan where they filmed Somewhere In Time... lovely place. And with fudge stores on every corner, what's not to like? :D

Anyway... I agree with some of the choices already mentioned here (Han and Leia, Mulder and Scully, Aragorn and Arwen), but I'll also add:

-Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor in The Terminator. That scene where he bares his soul to Sarah in the motel, right before they make love, is subdued yet quite powerful. And Sarah's recording -- "In the few hours we had together, we loved a lifetime's worth...". Beautiful.

-Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen (those would be the actors' names, obviously) in John Carpenter's Starman, a very underrated little film. In fact, I think it's one of Carpenter's best, and definitely one of the best sci-fi romances ever made. We have Allen, the grieving widow, who slowly falls in love with this strange alien who has sampled her late husband's DNA and assumed his form; and we have Bridges, as the alien, who throughout the film learns what it is to love as he reciprocates Allen's feelings, and, in the end, gives her an incredible gift. It is a very touching story, IMO, and one that is enhanced greatly by the strong performances by the two leads.

Gene Starwind and Melfina
Conan and Valeria
R2D2 and C-3P0
Willow and Oz(Fuck you Joss Whedon)
Wes and Fred(No seriously. Fuck you Joss Whedon)
John and Aeryn
Nerd Boi Doctor and Rose
Cyclops and Phoenix
Batman and Catwoman
Cloud and Aeris
Darth Revan and Bastilla Shan
Chuck and Sarah

Han and Leia
Han and Chewie
Han and Luke
Han and Boba Fett
Han and Jabba
Han and Greedo
Han and Lando(seriously that guy got around)

Do you know if the hotel gift shop stocks the original novel by Richard Matheson? I've been meaning to look into that . . . .

Speaking of STARMAN, Jeff Bridges was actually nominated for an Oscar for that flick. Not bad for a sci-fi romance!

Aeryn and Chrichton

The Princess Bride

City On the Edge Of Forever(c'mon, people, this is a Star Trek board!)

We just saw STARMAN a couple weeks back. Good movie, though seems a tad dated, and low-budget. But I think that works in its favor. Gives it a 'gritty' reality to it...

Well, we always stayed in a hotel in Mackinaw City, on the mainland, so we never went into the hotel on Mackinac Island. However, a bunch of the stores in the area sold Somewhere in Time merchandise (as the film is one of the island's "claims to fame"). I don't specifically remember if I saw any copies of Matheson's original novel, but I would be very surprised if there weren't a few places that carried it.

A couple that were mentioned already (and I see we're branching into fantasy as well):

Mulder & Scully
Aeryn & Crichton
Willow & Oz
Paul & Chani

And some new ones:

Beren & Luthien
Willow & Tara (I guess it's just Willow :) )
Claire & Charlie
Penny & Desmond
