Facebook... officially lame

On a related note, I have actually refused to tell some people my last name, because I know if they knew it they would find me on facebook and add me.

I know it would probably be easier to just delete my account or something, but that would require actually logging into facebook and messing with it. I'd rather just continue ignoring it.

I actually got an email today from a friend who's deleted her Facebook for this very reason. She gets inundated by friend requests from people who want to get close to her sister, who is something of a celebrity. It just got to be too much.

And I thought the random MySpace adds were annoying :wtf:

I am in no way shape or form a celebrity, but the job I do does mean fans and while I appreciate them trying to add me - I do often feel a line is being crossed.

Thankfully I'm harder to find on Facebook.

I don't know what the hell is the big deal. Who cares if your parents are on facebook? Unless you are a moody teenager I don't see it as a problem, they are people too.

^ Mmmm, no matter your age, they will cramp your style.

Like putting your baby photos on their page.

I agree.

Hell, I'm almost 24, and I've never even used a curse word in front of my parents.

People need to come into their own, and frankly, that means having a life that their parents don't know about.

I didn't really quit Myspace in favour of Facebook, but they sort of switched places automatically. I got rid of my Myspace account because I disliked all the spam I got there, and then a while later I got a Facebook account. It's not that I do much with it, but it's a handy way to keep in touch In other words: it requires no effort :p

Umm, for clarity: the quotes thing got messed up. I'm twice that age. Though I never used a curse word in front of my parents either. Mind you, being Scottish, they did listen to Billy Connelly...

My parents on FB wouldn't embarrass me intentionally, and I'd have to live with that, in a grin-and-bear-it way

By the same token, one of my kids has a FB account but I'm not bothering him. He may not approve of what his old man does :D

Ack! My Dad just friend-requested me.

I'm mostly worried about him asking me about one of the BBS people I've friended on facebook...not sure how I'd explain that one, since he doesn't get the whole 'online community' thing and would probably think doubleoh or someone will use my info to find and murder me - not that I put my address on facebook, 'cause I don't.

I am shocked, SHOCKED that doubleoh warrants a mention as being possibly mistaken for a potential murderer and I don't. I would have thought we still meant at least that much to one another. :(

Facebook was always lame. I like my myspace much more.
I basically stopped going to my Myspace page within weeks of making my Facebook page. I haven't been back in years, and good riddance. Most Myspace pages look like someone vomited out HTML code and made a website with it.

^ That would actually be why I never told my parents about Myspace or Facebook... my dad never wanted us to have one because he is worried about us kids getting raped by a 65 year old guy named Bubba while he steals our identity. Too bad he doesn't realise that common sense is a pretty good defence against that sort of stuff.

Agreed, Myspace is a pile of shit! FBook is neat and clean, although I feel like over the past year its becoming more like myspace, with the stupid "25 things" going around

I thought the apps were getting really annoying and Myspace-ish, but since the design update where they don't display on a person's profile page I'm happy. I only have 2 apps anyway, one with my Xbox Live gamercard and one with my Steam info.
