Vulcan vs the other planet (spoilers)

And it's no spoiler (since it's now available in a published "prequel comic") that, in Nero's "past" (post-TNG-era), Romulus is
destroyed. It's because of this that Nero sets off on his own mission... to save Romulus (in the past) while taking revenge on the Vulcans who COULD have saved Romulus but, in his eyes, simply chose not to).

[Darth Vader] Noooooooooooooooo!:scream: [/Darth Vader]

I didn't 'know' this until reading the about #2, but it's what I expected.

I think that the "reset button" for this movie will end up being Kirk, Spock and Co (aboard the "Alt-Enterprise") taking an action in their timeline which will, in the future
, prevent the destruction of Romulus
.

Agreed.

I know, I'd love the time line to be set right a the end of this, Spock successful and the proper Enterprise back again. I just don't see Abrams doing that.
What is with you? "the PROPER ENTERPRISE"?:wtf::wtf: Dude get over it already, this is a new TIMELINE, a new ENTERPRISE, And a new cast. As I said before, get over it! If your so upset about this not being the " PROPER " Star Trek then don't see it.
Again, all opinions need not be challenged, and if they are challenged, the use of "What is with you?", "get over it" and overuse of ALL-CAPS for emphasis may be perceived as unnecessarily confrontational and a bit shouty.

Myself, I don't really want to see the "proper Enterprise back again" because I don't think it would serve this story well, but that's just my opinion, and I can allow room for someone else to have a different one. For that matter, I'm not convinced yet that this will be a wholly new timeline, either, but we will see.
I Apologize, I will use the "ALL-CAPS" more..sparingly.:vulcan:

I have a similar habit of using all-caps for simple emphasis...people still mis-read it as shouting, which is never intended but oft-misinterpreted.

^Grrrr! The same exact reason "The Voyage Home" and "First Contact" were such failures!

Time travel is going to confuse the crap out of general audiences and destroy the film in the box office

It certainly worked well enough financially for dumb flicks like BTTF and a brilliant one like 12 MONKEYS and awfully well for the T flicks, but I'll allow that a heartfelt little exercise like PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED didn't make anybody rich, and even SOMEWHERE IN TIME didn't do that well theatrically.

If they treat it like they did the nexus plot contriver in GENERATIONS, I think THAT would be a recipe for the outcome you mention, but we don't know that's the case.

All you really need is a modest semi-predicatable twist at the end a la FINAL COUNTDOWN and you'll have some people liking it enough to look past other failings. (probably not me, but some people.)

Yeah, or The Terminator, Back to the Future, Twelve Monkeys or Butterfly Effect. All of them massive failures. Oh, wait ...

I rather wish they weren't messing about with time travel and Nimoy. It'll probably come together in the end, but I'd have preferred a straight origin tale without the self-referential baggage that seems likely to accompany this film. Time travel of itself doesn't say much about the final product, but I hope they have a good story to tell here that necessitates its use.

I'm boycotting this film unless Earth, Andor, Kronos and whereever the fucking hell the Pig People come from are all destroyed. Destroyed, I tell you! Drilled and sucked up their own buttholes by Nero's red matter device -

Oh no, here comes cooleddie74. Bad move to use those words in a post...

I feel similarly. I think optimistically that they do have a relevant story for its use.

lol, bunch of angry fanboy time travel lovers above. You do know those films you list were done 10+ years ago, right?. It's time for something original, not another mix of all the other movies, like Nemsis was of Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country.

PS

And how do you compare a classic and unforgetable stories like Terminator and Back to the Future, to something that has been done to death in Star Trek in every show, TNG and Voyager finale, and two movies already, is beyond me. Making this movie is like Terminator 29, it would tank in the box office, and Star Trek will probably as well.

I've been accused in most threads of being virulently anti the movie, so it is surprising you're grouping me with the gushers.

But if you're calling BTTF a classic, you're losing tons of credibility right off. Except for the score, and the last shot in the first movie, I don't think there is anything worth a damn in any of those Zemeckis flicks.

Sorry I was distracted watching the Time Travel Fan Collective set...missed your comment. Maybe I can somehow go back in time and read it, if I care. ;)

There are a lot of rumors that Vulcan is destroyed.

Have we forgotten that Ambassador Spock is travelling back in time to undo Nero's meddling?

You're assuming the film will end in Spock's failure?
Absolutely correct.

I just want whats best for Trek, and that means it has to be a quality film, and another time travel story is not it. If it doesn't do well in the office, the whole thing might die.

The thing about this movie, it reminds me of pre-Nemesis time, when you had all this hype about how cool it is, action this, great villain that, writer of Gladiator. Then we find it's a copy cat and it nearly kills the franchise.

Then you have this movie. There is hype about how it's cool, has a new bridge and redesigned ship, action this (planets blow up wow), great villain nero that, writer of lost. Then, I'm afraid it's gonna be another copy cat, and it will kill the franchise.

Do Paramaunt simply don't understand the idea of a good original story any more? = good reviews = more fans = more money in box office = profit and succes?

Aren't you the same guy who thinks the Shatnerverse novels are the best thing ever? ;)

So original, reviving Kirk - twice - so he can be best buddies with Picard, like in "Generations", but for eight more hardcovers.

They are awsome as far as books go. I don't think they'd work for a movie or the general public ;)

I have a similar habit of using all-caps for simple emphasis...people still mis-read it as shouting, which is never intended but oft-misinterpreted.
And the same has been harped upon, incessantly it seems sometimes, regarding my own writing style.

I learned to type on an old-fashioned manual typewriter, years ago. In order to get "bold" or "italic" you had to put in a different type wheel. The only options available were underlining or all-caps. Double-striking worked, a little bit, sometimes... but it didn't tend to work well enough to be relied upon.

So, as a "stream of consciousness" typist, I use ALL CAPS quite frequently, and use it (as you said) for EMPHASIS, not for "shouting." "Shouting" is sort of a hyperbole way of looking at emphasis, as far as I'm concerned.

If you want to see "shouting" from me... it'll look like...

THIS-THIS-THIS-THIS-THIS!!!!!!!

(Now, back to your regularly scheduled rantings... :techman: )
