Ryan Reynolds IS Green Lantern

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Anton Yelchin? SERIOUSLY? No.

Technically, Hal Jordan's original apperance was modeled on that of Paul Newman, btw.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Yeah, I was thinking about Paul Newman inspiration for Hal as well.

So, the question then is = Who is a modern equivalent of Paul Newman?

We can't get zombie Paul Newman for the role, can we? I say cut Jared Padalecki's hair, muscle him up and give him the role.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

If Trek XI does well I can see Chris Pine in the role.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Give it to Fillion. he may be nearing the age limit of 3-movie-deal-making, but he can still pull it off and god knows he has the charisma to play a cocky test pilot while remaining likable to the audience.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Reeve and Fillion got their starts on Soaps. Perhaps thats were the casting folks should be looking.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

WB isn't just going to give it to an unknown anymore. The days of Chris Reeve are gone. There's to much money to be made (or lost). You give it to an actor that has some chops--and a resume that goes with it. Gosling is a nominated actor. I'm not saying he's perfect for the role either. I'm just saying you don't hand over the lead role of a 100 million dollar picture to an unknown, untested actor.

Funny how just three years ago they gave a role he defined more so than George Reeves to a soap actor.

Busted.

Jensen Ackles looks more like Paul Newman than Padalecki to me.

I'd take Fillon in the role. Staying in the Whedon school I'd also rather have David Boreanaz.

Gosling, Hirsch and Yeltin...no, no, NO!
Chris Pine, my jury is out until I see you in a lead role this May.

Fillon or Boreanaz either one would be a good fit.
Any actor who is mid 20's and looks like a 90210 cast member should be dismissed.
Hal Jordan is a man, not a boy and frankly too many of today's mid-20ish characters/actors are still immature and boyish.

Boreanaz would be interesting since he already played Hal in the DC animated movie New Frontier. :D

^And did a spiffy job, I might add.

You know, I expect this sort of thoughtless youth generalization comment from BigC, not you. :p

90210 was back then what Smallville is now -- only instead one 30-something Tom Welling trying to act like he's in his teens, there were several.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

I still like Matthew Settle, Captain Speirs in Band of Brothers and Humphrey on Gossip Girl, for the role. He'll be 30 in September.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Anton Yelchin says there's no truth in the rumors that he's in the running to play Hal Jordan. Reported by Hitfix from WonderCon:

This May, Anton Yelchin will be in the business of reinterpreting classic characters. In "Star Trek," he'll channel his inner Walter Koenig as Pavel Chekov. Then he follows Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese in "Terminator Salvation."

One role Yelchin says he isn't ready to put his own spin on is Hal Jordan in Martin Campbell's take on "Green Lantern."

All week long, the Internet has been all aswirl with reports that Yelchin was the top choice to topline the DC Comics adaptation. Then there were modified reports that Yelchin had, at the very least, read for the role and was under consideration.

"Yeah, I have no idea about that," Yelchin told reporters at a WonderCon post-panel roundtable.

Yelchin's interview partner Bryce Dallas Howard chimed in, "He was talking about that on the plane."

"I have no clue, nothing about that," Yelchin expanded. "I have no idea. I think I'm probably too young. No one's approached me. No one's said anything to me. I imagine I'm just too young. It's a great character, but I don't know anything about it."

So it's completely untrue?

"Completely. I haven't heard anything about it."

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

I'm in the Fillion/ Boreanaz camp too. Gosling is more of a Kyle Rayner type IMHO (but I'm not an expert on the GL mythos.). After the flop of Speed Racer, it's unclear why the studio is chasing Hirsch (though it's understandable why he's turned it down). Yelchin is wise to turn this down too - there'd be a danger of franchise overkill, with him already appearing in Trek & Terminator movies. And as the man himself says, he's too young for the role. Chris Pine might be okay but surely this role would be too much like his Captain Kirk one.

As a 37 year old, I may be biased, but I don't see why a 30-something is too old for this role. Harrison Ford in Star Wars, Hugh Jackman in X-Men, Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, Christian Bale in Batman Begins - all 30-somethings who made their roles not just successful but downright iconic. Hell, Robert Downey jr was in his 40s in Iron Man, last year's second most successful movie, IIRC.

If they want more of a name actor, well, Matthew McConaughey has some of the air of a young Newman about him - I know he's much hated, but IMHO he's given great performances in the likes of EdTV, U-571, Fragility and Lone Star. Forget the crap romcoms and check those out. And if theuy want to go younger, I think Joshua Jackson has been very watchable in Fringe. He would have been my first choice for Captain Kirk in the Trek movie, TBH (I still think he's more like a young Shatner than Pine FWIW).

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Thank god Yelchin debunked that rumor.

How about Matthew McConaughey semi-doppelganger Josh Lucas?
