What happened to sitcom theme songs???

Because we would moan till she found the rewind button.:lol:
Remember children there are 30 of you and only one of her.:evil:

You know, if we collected up all this crap off youtube (old programmes, old idents, old adverts, the national anthem played at midnight), we could reconstruct tv from years ago. It wouldn't take much work to tidy up the videos and build a video playlist with all the bits in the right places...

Or would that be going a step too far?

I like the idea of the Brits taken over trek bbs and bring quality programming to the masses. :devil:

The Doctor Who forum can be very Brit heavy at times.

does the world/trekbbs need the ITV/4 Schools Ident, it seems unlikely, but its worth it just for the memories

and back to the topic of sitcom themes, whenever I watch an episode of Cheers, I always find the theme way to long, and get bored. (that probaly says alot about me) That said I end up totally out of brief trying to sing the Big Bang Theme Tune

I dont hate it, I just think its too long, it could certainly loose the start "making your way in the world today takes everyone youve got, taking a break from all your worrys sure would help alot" bit.

The syndicated version of the series has a very truncated version of the theme.

Which is a crying shame. It's a great, timeless, theme.

I think the full song-length version included a line like "...and your husband wants to be a girl...sometimes you wanna go..."! :lol:

Indeed it does. :lol:

Cheers Theme Video

Full lyrics:

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you've got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?

All those night when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail;
And your third fiance didn't show;

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead;
The morning's looking bright;
And your shrink ran off to Europe,
And didn't even write;
And your husband wants to be a girl;

Be glad there's one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.

Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came...

IIRC, the song was expanded after the popularity on the series. But it's really a great, great song.

Bizarrely, the guy who wrote and performed the 'Cheers' theme also wrote and performed the 'Punky Brewster' theme.

Not that bizarre...remember that Alan Thicke was behind "The Facts of Life" and "Diff'rent Strokes" theme songs. Heck, even John Williams did two different themes for "Lost in Space" almost 10 years before Star Wars came out. ;)

This is true. I was mostly thinking how odd it was that one was somewhat somber and the other more upbeat, yet they sounded rather the same.

Ah, John Williams. I was watching an old episode of 'Kraft Suspense Theatre' I believe it was and saw 'Music by Johnny Williams' in the credits.

^^^ [shakes head] :lol:

So long as they bring back Fred Harris, then I think we'll be doing OK. :bolian:

But I also agree - bring back the National Anthem when BBC One closes down.... even if it means going to News 24 afterwards as they do now. (Heck, they did that on Radio 4 when switching transmissions to the World Service at 1am.)
