Mel Gibson as the Dark Knight??

Mr.Bartell

Ok hear me out..

Say what you want about Mel Gibson as a person..I personally think the dude's a sexist, homophobic, anti-semite holocaust denyer..but the guy makes good ass movies.

Am I the only one that thinks he is the only Actor/Director that can bring an aging bruce to life in an adaption of frank miller's the dark knight returns?

Any thoughts or comments?

Clint Eastwood around the time of Unforgiven would have been goddamn incredible, but he's WAY to old now..He'd make a great gordon tho, but i can't see the man with no name in a supporting role.

I have zero interest in seeing a film version of Dark Knight Returns, nor any "frame by frame" reproduction of any Batman comics. I much prefer the Dark Knight model. Mine a few of the best stories for themes, and work from there.

Gibson is too old. We don't want Bats to go the Indy route, complete with cruel Depends jokes.

Do you know what The Dark Knight Returns is?

And there was nothing wrong with Harrison Ford as Indy in Crystal Skull (OF COURSE you could say there was plenty of other stuff wrong with it.)

Ford was fine in Indy the rest of the movie was horrid and I think Gibson could pull off the Dark Knight as well. I dont want to see it though.

Yeah... when did he deny the holocaust?

Maybe The Dark Knight Returns could be an HBO miniseries. I don't know why, but I think Chris Noth could be a good Harvey Dent in it.

TDKR should be animated anyway, so Clint's age shouldn't matter as he would only need to do the voice...

I wouldn't mind an animated movie for TDKR. But for a motion picture, I say NO!!! It just doesn't fit for me to see a guy in his 50s put back the batsuit after a while... Nah...

Gibson would have been a good Batman around the time of the Burton movie. Apparently in the late 1990s, Richard Donner was interested in making a Superman v Batman movie (this was some years before the aborted Wolfgang Peterson project) and his casting choices would have been Mel (with whom he worked in Lethal Weapon and Conspiracy Theory) as Batman and Daniel Day-Lewis as Superman.

Mel might be a good Dark Knight for a Returns adaptation (the height thing can easily be disguised - you all do know that Elijah Wood isn't Hobbit sized, right?) but I have no interest in seeing a movie version of it. The comic is very good but has dated. I'd rather see a movie borrowing influences and inspiration from it, the way that BB was influenced by Year One (which has aged a lot better, IMHO).

I've never got the Clint for Batman thing, I have to say. Clint for Nick Fury, yes, but never for Bruce Wayne. Clint is too blue collar, not aristocratic or handsome enough. I couldn't even buy him as e.g. the aged Bruce in Batman Beyond. And the idea of casting him now, pushing 80 as the 55 year old Batman of DKR? Nope, doesn't work for me.
