Companion for second 2009 special: Lindsay Duncan

^ Oh, okay - I can totally get behind that! Heaven knows I've gone a lot farther than that for the sake of a joke... :)

this is odd news, last I heard the final special was going to have an older female companion, not the second.

That was based on assumptions rather than facts. RTD said a couple months ago that there would be an older female companion "next Christmas." Some people guessed that that meant in a two-part finale aired at Christmas and New Year's. But this announcement combined with that report makes it sound like there's one special at Christmas and then the two-part finale in the days following. Either that, or scheduling plans have changed in the past couple months.

Looks like the mystery might haven been solved. According to Scooty, the guy who's responsible for just about every major Set Report and Photo from the last couple of years they are actually shooting Tennant's last two episodes now and then the second Special.

Interesting. Could you point me to where he said that?

Regardless of the filming order, though, Duncan is clearly in the second special to be broadcast, and I still don't see any reason to think that won't be Christmas 2009.
guess that puts pay to any suggestion they might age him over the course of the specials.
Well, I never thought that was likely or necessary, but they could still do it. There are people whose job it is to keep the continuity of stuff like that when the show films out of order.

It seems that this may not be the case- close examination of photos from the recent filming seems to show Graeme Harper on set, and he's directing the second special not than the big finale.
