The Doctor's Son???

trilbymonkey

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
I seem to recall an episode of Voyager where they are stuck in orbit above a planet that is in a different timeframe to Voyager, and the doctor beams down and spends 3 an a half years there, then an astronaut from the planet comes aboard and just before he leaves the doctor asks about a boy named Jason, who he claims was his son. However, there is no mention of this child afterwards. Why was this child mentioned if they weren't going to explain it? Or did they and I just missed it?

Yeah, The Doctor apparently had a son in "Blink of an Eye." He mentioned it once, only to never mention it again.

Does not compute! Does not compute!

Because the writing staff were, if you believe the Rant from Ronald D Moore, were under orders to ignore things like continuity.

I recall from a con when Picardo was talking about Message in a Bottle and the script surprisingly told him that his character had had sex that he wasn't aware of.

What's worse?

Ignoring continuity or inventing continuity?

It would have been nice if they had given us a few more details on this (not that I'd really expect that much from the Voyager writing staff in Season 6), but I just assumed that the kid was the son of the woman the Doctor had shacked up with. Until he was beamed back to Voyager, the doc acted as an adoptive father to the lad.

Yeah, he wasn't actually the kids father.

If you're interested somebody wrote a short story that goes more into his time there, but I can't remember the name of the book it was in.

At the end of real Life, B'Elanna had to stop the Doctor from erasing the family he had invented from his own memories after the little girl died because he got sad.

Maybe, no one was there to stop him this time?

I think the story's in one of the Strange New Worlds books, but I can't remember which one. Narrows it down though. ;)

Of course the kid was "adopted"? Even if the Doctor had "borrowed" someone elses sperm and used himself as a delivery device in a seemingly normal fashion that his "partner" would not twig that anything was amiss (How far does the Doctors Hollow issue, from spitting while talking, to cumming, to his hair falling out does his mobile emitter still have the range to leave existential?) "Joe" still wouldn't be the genetic parent... Although I suppose that he could have made himself another holographic son?

Lets see?

JANEWAY: Mariza?
EMH: She was my roommate. Three years is a long time, Captain. One needs companionship.
and...

]EMH: This will accelerate your metabolic functions, help you make the transition.
GOTANA-RETZ: Thank you for everything, Doctor.
EMH: It was a pleasure to treat a fellow citizen. Would you do me a favour?
GOTANA-RETZ: Certainly.
EMH: Find out what happened to a boy named Jason Tabreez. He lived in the Central Protectorate.
GOTANA-RETZ: Jason? An unusual name.
EMH: Yes. He was my son.
GOTANA-RETZ: But you're a hologram.
EMH: It's a long story. He's dead by now, but perhaps you could discover what happened to him. Maybe he had children or grandchildren. You could tell them about me.
GOTANA-RETZ: I will.

The ep in question is "Blink of an Eye" the Doc mentions that he had a son to one of the astronauts who visit Voyager, I don't recall what his name was, and he never mentioned him again. He may have told his wife though, it's also possible that Holograms don't kiss and tell...

The Story is "Eighteen Minutes" by Terri Osbourne and its found in the Distant Shores anthology.

very good short story. It chronicles what the Doc did those 18 (voyager) minutes. He experienced something like 3 years.
