Star Trek Marketing Article on Yahoo News

I still don't think the success or failure of this movie will have anything to do with "Star Trek fans". I wouldn't aim my marketing budget on a squabbly argumentative rabble. The last few movies were aimed at us and didn't exactly set the box office alight.

Joe public will decide on this one. Not us. Market this one for the masses.

We'll go see it even if its shit.

Nice to know there are two more trailers on the way.

Is it just me?? It always annoys me when a reporter or TV personality does a report on Star Trek and tries to use Trek jargon to be hip. It never really works and sounds so very wrong.

There were definitely several  moments in that article. Not sure what the author was attempting to accomplish with those references in light of Trek XI's mission statement, as acknowledged in the article, to reach out to those who aren't conversant with the universe and its attendant minutiae.

Oh it was bad. It has been awhile since I have watched a lot of Trek and some of the references I had to really think hard about to remember...

And the thing is, we hardly even use that jargon amongst ourselves, so it sounds doubly stupid coming from others... :vulcan:

Is there even a marketing scheme that could attract Trekkies who've already decided to hate this? The rest of us who are optimistic don't really need much persuasion.

Better they focus their attention on the total non-Trek fan. That's where the money is.

To help get the not so optimistic fans on board, they could always have a TV spot with Quinto and Pine or maybe Abrams on their knees begging to these fans for a chance to prove themselves worthy of more than the heretic's stake? ;)

That would have been a good TV spot for the superbowl

Hahaha

Just a 30 second spot of Pine as Kirk screaming "KHAAAANNNNnntinue to support Star Trek movies!"

We're All Just A bunch Of Yahoos......

There are 25 million Star Trek fans worldwide? Hmm. Where did Mr. Arnold get that number, exactly? Were we somehow electronically tagged without our knowledge?

Yup, and all this time you thought that was a mole on your forehead.

It sounds like there will be a final spot after Watchmen, should this article be accurate. But what would it air with?

I was wondering about this myself. Is the article indicating a fourth theatrical trailer, sometime after Watchmen, or is this going to be another high visibility TV spot like the Super Bowl one? Which of course, a TV spot won't be as long as a theatrical trailer.

If my brother ever has kids, *I'll* be the nerdy uncle :( .

Though, since I've already got a little one, I'm already the nerdy dad, so whatever.
