Rabbits the size of WHAT NOW?!?

So I was perusing a pay website (so I can't link to it) and among some of the other things on the page was a piece about a Spanish breed of rabbits (Valenciano) and how they are being raised like chickens or sheep for their meat.

They didn't have a pic of those rabbits, but the page made a reference to THESE rabbits photographed in Germany as being similar.

OR ARE THEY SHOPPED? Remember the giant cat photoshops from a few years back? Or for that matter, "Hogzilla"?

If they are real, now is when we REALLY need DeForest Kelley back! (See "Night of the Lepus" for clarification...he actually appeared alongside the WNMHGB ship's surgeon, Dr. Piper (Paul Fix).)

Well, surely enough, if you put them close to the camera, they'll look big. :vulcan: All a matter of perspective, I guess.

I'm pretty sure those are real and are known as Giant European House Rabbits. People in the UK are starting to breed them for commercial purposes as well.

I was going to say that to me the top one looks photoshopped and the lower two look as though the man is holding the rabbit close to the camera to make it look bigger. However, I checked at snopes.com and found that it appears to be true.

it's a simple matter of perspective . . . look at how big his hand is in the first pic
sure, those are some big bunnies but they're don't seem to be unnaturally large

In some articles I found, they grow up to 20-25 lbs, which is about the size of a Cocker Spaniel! If I ever got one of these, I'd have to name it Harvey. :D

Note the hand -- too large. Note the feet on the bunny -- far too small.

I'm not disputing 17lb rabbits, I'm disputing these pictures.
A rabbit that large would have considerable mass and as such the people pictured exhibit a bit of strain holding them as they are. This picture I'm using as an example looks like someone who is holding a small dog, and a Photochopper put a pic of the rabbit there and tried to adjust it accordingly.

Precisely. I'm not even convinced the above photo is real for the reason you mentioned.

If that were real, the rabbit would have to be pretty big and heavy. Seeing the man with the small stature, I doubt he could carry an object that size and weight without tilting sideways.
