The new Dead Like Me movie does suck *Minor Spoilers*

I watched seasons 1 and 2 over the last couple of weeks, and really had high hopes for Life After Death. It wasn't perfect, but the Reggie/George story line really made up for the flaws. And I really liked where George ended up. Daisy was horrible, the whole Cameron Kane story line sucked, and I really missed Rube. But Dead Like Me has always been the story of the Lass family, and I was very happy with how Life After Death moved their story along. I'd love to see them make more of these.

Am I the only one that REALLY enjoyed this movie? Dead Like Me has come in 3 different little pieces. You have Fuller's time with Betty (talk about an AWESOME final show), the rest of the series... and now the movie. There's so much potential for something more here... and I can't wait to hear about a resurrection of the tv show again. All the pieces were here and boy oh boy did they SHINE. Dead Like Me is a show about death that makes me feel so happy about living. The movie doesn't have to blow me away as the "best thing ever"... but Dead Like Me did not disappoint. There could be more... and I want so bad for it to come.

I havent got round to ordering this yet. I have read of the cast changes and such, but as long as Muth is in it, I shall get round to watching it eventually. Her character equals Death Like Me in my opinion, regardless of which of the supporting cast are there or not.

Honestly, I didn't even know there was a DLM movie ... I liked the show, but probably never saw the later episodes. Like Eureka, it was an entertaining distraction, but I had no faith in Sci-Fi to keep it on the air for very long.

Dead Like Me actually aired on Showtime for its two seasons.

Yes, and I can only watch the episodes on SciFi as my young daughters like the show as well. When they are teenagers maybe I'll buy the uncut DVDs, or whatever the format is.

^ You definitely need to watch the original (uncut) versions of the show.

Agreed, it is not a children's show. Strangely enough, though, I don't remember them ever going overboard with the violence on the show. Yes, they showed people suffering horrible deaths but they always seemed to cut away.

It was the swearing and sexual references that'd cause the Sci-Fi Channel to panic. I am not sure if the UK Sci-Fi Channel cut it after they bought it. It wasn't cut when it originally aired on Sky One.

I think they did, because I seem to remember they repeated them during the day, but whether that means they always edited it I don't know.

Just for the sake of accuracy. :D

Daisy: Georgia! Are you wearing a fragrance this morning?
George: It's orange juice. I hate the bus.
Rube: Public transportation is the great equalizer.
George: I don't wanna be equal. Fuck equal.
Mason: Steal a car.
Daisy: What about a bicycle? I once had Dorothy's original bike from The Wizard of Oz. I knew someone from the props department.
Mason: Don't you mean you blew somebody in the props department?
Daisy: Knew, blew, tomato, tomahto. Once baby Judy died, I didn't want to ride it anymore, so I sold at an auction.

Finally got around to seeing this. Instead of starting a new thread, I figured I bring this one back from the dead. Feels appropriate for this show in more than one way.

I found it to be okay at best, but not near as terrible as every one else seemingly. I was a bit surprised that this wasn't about closing out the series, which I expected, but updating and situating it to make more if they want/are allowed to.

I liked the Reggie and George story line a great deal. It was nice that was resolved in some fashion. It also gave Reggie a bit more depth than she had during the series. But, focusing so strongly on this story line may be part of what caused the "off" feeling many are discussing. For me, it wasn't so much the other characters were off; it was given so little to do despite having so much change around them in the story, they weren't able to portray any depth and came off thin. The new Daisy particularly suffered. Shallow yet vulnerable is difficult to pull off, and all she was given was the shallow. It made some scenes fall flat. I felt no sympathy for her whatsoever as she crashed and burned on stage.

Not great movie, but I'd watch another. This proved to me how strongly George anchors the show, and as long as they get her right, all the other missteps will be tolerable.

I really disliked it.

As others have said, the only decent part was the storyline with Reggie and Georgia. Everything else "knew" chunks. Especially the thinly-veiled "the Devil is testing you" boss man, doubly so when Death wouldn't rely on such a douche to get his job done for him -- triply so since he clearly failed on an epic scale and it was implied that it wasn't even his first time! Just... every single thing about that was wretched. Absolutely wretched.

I'm glad Inigo Montoya declined to be in the movie. The man has taste.

I also thought the George/Reggie storyline was the best part of this.

If they were going to have the others act so out of character, they should have spent the whole movie trying to kill the new boss, instead giving in to his temptation.

I was amazed that John Masius co-wrote this. So much of its heart was gone. Almost un-dead itself.

I did, though, absolutely LOVE the ending with the post-it notes. Rube coming back, or George now in charge? Or something else entirely ...

I hope there's at least one more and that Bryan Fuller will write it, or least do the story.
