Lindsey Duncan (Rome) cast as (final?) Tennant companion

The "Rome" actress has been cast as one of the final companions in the second special (The one after the Michelle Ryan one). It's possible she'll be there for the regeneration (Presumably along with Martha)

She is perhaps best known to USA audiences for two roles: Servilla (Julius Caeser's spurned mistress and mother of Brutus) in "Rome" and as the silver droid that greets the Jedi in "Star Wars:The Phantom Menace".

She's also, at 58/59 the oldest companion the Doctor's ever had in the TV series unless you count Sarah Jane and the Romanas. Previously, an older woman accompanied the Doctor in the audio adventures (Elvelyn Smythe).

She won't be the final companion - that one will be in specials #3 and #4, which are a two-part story

Wait, when was it revealed that the third and fourth specials are going to be a two-part story?

Why are these one-shot guest-stars being called "Companions"? They're no more companions than any other story character The Doctor runs into during an episode...

Presumably because it sounds a bit more exciting than "significant guest star who fulfills the companion narrative function".

in some ways it just plays into the format, and give the general public an answer to the question of "who is the companion" other than "there is no companion" becasue apparntly the general public are only interested in companions and are not interested in seeing the Doctor travel by himself.

That said these guest stars Michelle Ryan and now Lindsey Duncan, are no more "companions" than Kylie is one.

Perhaps, but as you might have noticed, I haven't been around on a regular basis since October. :p

Who mentioned it and when? Any further details on that subject?
I believe RTD mentioned it in interviews before the christmas special. I think it was Easter, Christmas, then the 2 part New Year special...

A two part-finale was first rumored around the time "Journey's End" aired, but like Bob says I don't think it was directly confirmed until around the time the Christmas special aired.

Huh, I'm surprised I didn't hear about that rumor at the time. Oh, well. Thanks for the info guys. Pity about the huge gap from Easter to Christmas.

Blimey, is that really what she's best known for...? I hear her name, and I think of some of the best drama shows of the past 20 years, like: GBH, Jake's Progress, Traffik, Shooting the Past...

It's LindsAy, by the way. (My girlfriend has the same name, and is continually annoyed by the mis-spelling.)

I know her from one of my wife's favorite movies Under the Tuscan Sun, AND from ROME (which is the most superior show ever created. Ever. Period.)

Someone else here who's slightly out of the loop... is Martha returning?

That's the rumour. I believe she says It's a possibility, but not confirmed yet.

Lindsay Duncan is very much one of my favourite actresses, so pleased about this.

Never seen 'Rome', hasn't had a regular viewing slot in Australia. But one of my favourite miniseres is Stephen Poliakoff's 'Perfect Strangers', she's great in that, as well as 'Shooting The Past'. Pleased beyond words.

Wow, I hope so!

I think it would suck for the Doctor to regenerate with no one around who has known him for more than half an hour.

I don't like this "companion of the week" thing they're doing. We never get to establish anyone as a character, they just end up being one-note-wonders with little dialogue.

Yeah I have to say even though I'm not Martha's biggest fan it'd be good for her to come back, we need someone the Doctor's known to see the regen...

^Frankly I'd prefer it was just about anyone, but I guess Martha makes more sense than Donna, or even Jack. If Noel clarke were up for it I'd say Mickey but think he's a bit big for Who now he has a BAFTA
