Another trip down memory lane... one-hit wonders!!!

Due to use of an unauthorized sample, that song is credited as having been written by Jagger & Richards with additional material by the Verve.

The 1980s had tons of them... That's part of why I love that decade. :D
Off the top of my head:

T'Pau - "Heart and Soul" (couldn't forget that one on this board ;))

I have several albums of T'Pau, one of which I bought in Honk Kong during a port visit in 1990, which I don't believe was ever sold in the US. Carol Decker is one hot piece of real estate :drool:

Sugar Hill gang had 2-3 hits!! Ever hear of Apache, or Eight Wonder?

Devo also had a few hits, including Beautiful World, Freedom of Choice, Working in a Coal Mine.

I also believe A-ha and several other acts you mention were big internationally in their time.

RAMA
Exactly!

Deee-Lite also had: Power of Love

Arrested Development's biggest hit was: Tennesse, Mr. Wendel was the follow up.

Nu Shooz also had hits with: Point of No Return & Should I Say Yes.

Swing Out Sister also had: Twilight World & Surrender

I dont know if theyd had other hit songs but I love Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve.

They had 4 top 40 albums, 2 got to number one, and 10 top 40 singles. They are one of the biggest British bands of the 90s in their own country.

Bittersweet Symphony wasn't even their biggest hit ;)

Just being helpful

Fantastic band though, if he likes Bittersweet Symphony a lot, he should check out more of their stuff as much of it is comparably good.

Well, this has certainly been a learning experience for many of us. This may be one of the few instances when I don't mind being told I'm wrong -- I enjoy getting a broader understanding of these groups that, from my contemporary North American perspective, appear to have had only one big hit that has stood the test of time. Fascinating! :vulcan:

BTW, this is a little off-topic, but since I'm new here, I thought I'd ask: can anyone tell me how to place a link inside text, the way that some of you have put Youtube links into the titles of these songs?

Preach it, bro.

If they could have actually used the character of T'Pau on ENT (instead of T'Pol) and not have to worry about rights...they should have cast her.
Check your Enterprise history. T'Pau *WAS* in an episode ;)

I know, but AFAIK the original plan was to use her as a regular character. When this became impossible (since whoever wrote Amok Time would be entitled to royalties every time she appeared), then T'Pol was created.

I just think it'd have been cooler if Carol had been a series regular instead of just one episode guest star.

Going back a generation....

Argent - "Hold Your Head Up"

The Raspberries - "Go All The Way"

The Knack - "My Sharona"

Chi Coltrane - "Thunder and Lightning"

Daddy Dewdrop - "Chick-a-Boom (Dontcha Jus' Luvvit)"

Spirit - "I Got A Line on You"
