I just spent 30 hours playing Zelda...

Title says it all. I bought a Wii last week with my fiancee. Had a three day weekend (thank you President's Day) and logged 30 hours into Zelda: Twilight Princess. I just beat the water temple. For the first time in probably 5-6 years, I woke up, brewed coffee, and got about my business saving the land of Hyrule stopping only to get more coffee or eat. I don't play video games anymore, haven't since I was in high school... but something about this game in particular has me GRIPPED. When I got to work, I downloaded the soundtrack so I could listen to it during the day. Great game!!!!

No spoilers about how much game is left, or spoilers in general :)... but just wanted to let the people of TNZ know I definitely logged 30 hours into a game in three days of playing. Last time I did this I think it was Sim City 4: Deluxe in my quest to build a perfect city.

I got it on the Gamecube for Christmas 2006. It's a great game, but...
The overall plot and general layout, temples, etc seemed just a rehash of The Ocarina of Time.

I was pretty happy with the Twilight Princess. Agreed that it was similar to OoT for N64, but since that's the best Zelda game out there IMO, having another similar game isn't a bad thing.

Better than that stupid sequel to OoT (the mask one, I think?).

Playing this on Wii is also a little more fun, what with the sword motions and such. One of the few Wii games that I've bothered to play all the way to the end

^ Hey, I thought Majora's Mask was great!

The whole three days thing was a nice touch (although makes no sense timeline wise :)) and helping out all the townsfolk at various points throughout the three days was loads of fun and cleverly constructed

Isn't every Zelda game a rehash of the one before it? :p

And I loved Twilight Princess as well, it started out slow (I hated being a wolf), but became amazing once you got into it a bit. I need to find time to replay it.

When the original Zelda came out, my youngest brother was a kid and very into video games, so I would play with him. Zelda was one that I genuinely enjoyed playing. I actually wouldn't mind playing it again. :bolian:

Growing up in the 60s and 70s and, well, being a girl, video games were never a really big deal to me. But, when I got my son the original Nintendo - and the neighbor brought over his Zelda game for us to play .. I was hooked.

I was so psyched about the upcoming release for the Zelda OoT, that I bought the N64 like 4 months in advance and signed up for the gold cartridge!

I'd love to play it on Wii, but ... we just don't play enough video games to justify spending upwards of $300 for it.

:techman: Danoz

Phantom Hourglass for the DS is really  & fun, but I haven't gotten that far through it yet.

I have TP for the Wii but haven't played it yet. Everyone who I know who played TP Wii all the way through has told me TP is the best console videogame they've played. Or among the best:cool:

A really fun  Wii game reminiscent of Zelda & Mario Bros is Petz:Catz 2.

Danoz, you'd probably enjoy the DS also. If you don't have one, I definitely suggest getting it:)

Also, Danoz, & other Wii owners, being the Wii is backwards-compatible with GameCube games, you should get an official Nintendo GameCube controller (or 2), & an official Nintendo GameCube memory-card (or 2).

Also, a Wii must-have is Link's Crossb:techman:w Training, a Zelda spin-off that comes with the
uber-awes:cool:me Wii Zapper.

You could get the Gamecube version, used Gamecubes can be found for almost nothing. The Gamecube also has another Zelda game called Wind Waker.

I think I got about 1/3 the way through it when I had a Wii at launch
and put it down to play ExciteTruck which was way more fun.

And I love RPGs.

I've got Wind Walker and a gamecube. But, I just haven't been able to get as into that game as I did the other two. Heck, I only got half-way through Marjorca's Mask before I gave that one up.

I loved Wind Waker except for the Triforce fetch quest. I never played the N64 version of Majora's Mask, just the Gamecube port which would freeze a lot so I never finished it either.

Anyway, both Amazon and Half have used copies of the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess in the $25-30 range. If you liked OoT you'll almost certanly like Twilight Princess.

When I got the original Zelda for NES, I spent an entire day playing the stupid thing. I had nightmares about Hyrule that night. It was fucking awesome!

i both started and beat The Secret of Monkey Island 1&2, Civilization 2, Starfox 64 and Final Fantasy 7 today

I loved Ocarina of Time to death but i couldn't bring myself to even get halfway through Majora's Mask. Windwaker is an amazing game and i loved almost every minute of it but i quit playing Twilight Princess only a few hours in. I think the big thing for me is that i am playing a Zelda game and i want to play as Link. I don't want to be a Deku or Goron, i don't want to be a Wolf. Another thing that turned me off of TP were the horrible graphics. Even by Gamecube standards it looked low Rez with blurry and bland textures. The game actually gave me a headache because my eyes were trying to constantly bring the blurry landscape into focus. I think the cell shaded style in Windwaker looked a lot more impressive. I still have my copy of TP for the Wii but i only keep it around if i ever need to redo the Twilight Hack to get the homebrew up and running. Does the game get better after the first bit with the wolf? I keep hearing comparisons to Ocarina of Time, a game that i love. Does it really get that good?

Yes, it's that good. The wolf bit at the beginning is kinda odd, but you don't spend a ton of time as the wolf, so it's not all that bad (and it's kinda entertaining on occasion). Plenty of good stuff in that game, once you get out of the initial stages (which is really just warm-up anyway)

I spend 3 hours last night playing the ORIGINAL Zelda on my NES emulator.

Old school, bitches.

I should do that sometime soon. My Wii has the mod chip, and I've got a dvd with a ton of old NES and SNES roms on it, so I've been having fun with that occasionally. Recently re-beat Super Mario World, which was a great game. And my time for beating Mario 2 is down to like 15 minutes :)

Should really dig into the old Zelda games again, I didn't play them a lot originally (the Gameboy one was my first one i focused on and enjoyed). This game is just one that really comes alive in the 3D world, which is part of what made OoT such a huge leap forward out of the "top down" or 'side scroller' games...
