Britain's Underage Pregnancy Problems.

I went to an all-boys school, so the poor female teacher got inundated with 'whats the most embarrassing question we can ask' attempts in the 'anonymous questions' pot.
She spent a good 20 minutes talking about multiple orgasms.

What? Wait, John Cleese showed us that you guys get an actual demonstration by the teacher. Crap, all these years I thought I was missing out...

Well, this particular teacher gave at least some of the pupils a practical demonstration, involving herself and another languages teacher and some unfortunate mix-up on classroom booking... but that's another story ;)

Mmh, that seems rather late, especially the practical part (contraception and condoms). I only remember vaguely but I think we had the practical part in grade 6, where we were shown how to use a condom and things like that. And I went to a Catholic girls school. But it was the early 90s and everyone was scared of HIV. People have become less careful since that's not the immediate death threat it used to be. (This seems to be a problem in the sexually active gay community, too.)

That's only at public school.

You're a girl? I so didn't realise that.
Grade 6 would probably be frowned upon by parents in Britain - 'our children don't do that yet!" But it does need to go that way - face reality, people. The kids already know what sex is, might as well make sure the message regarding real contraception gets through, as well as the playground talk.

There was talk of lowering the age the lessons start, but I seem to remember the tabloids started one of their usual campaigns and the I never heard any more about it.

I went to one of the schools on the oldest independent schools list on that page.

I went to a much more recently founded independent school (19th century IIRC). See, I AM modern & in touch with society.... :D

I'm not exactly clear on how politics going left or right affect underage pregnancy rates. I remember enough about when I was fourteen to know that my decisions went like this:

Will my dad kick my ass if I come home pregnant? That would be a yes. Gee, I guess I'd better avoid situations where that could happen.

Who was running the country at the time didn't enter into it!

Well I suppose that depends on whether the politicians messed with education, but mostly politics came in to it because of one idioti post that needed to be mocked.

Queen Vic would be most proud.

She was. Well, of the school, at least. ;)

After my last post, I went to my old school's website to look up the founding date and its history, and apparently she gave it Royal Patronage in 1855.

Babies having babies?!? *Shakes head* But rather than blame it on society or the government, parents--and especially their kids--should be more responsible.

That's part of the problem here. How about a logical discussion or passing it by. The mocking turns into trolling and next thing you know we learn nothing and then have our threads shut off. Mocking serves no one except the sadistic side of the one posting.

If it's up to the parents (kids are after all minors under the charge of their parents) do you support more resources for parents like movie and TV ratings so they can censor what the children watch? Or does that argument go away when someone posts "think of the children?"

Please elaborate.

You're kidding!

The second language teacher was male or female?

In what way?

I actually do a lot of work with unwed mothers.

Well...mostly I just help them get their start. :D
